It made sense in the days when you couldn’t get a policy with a pre existing condition. If you got fired, buying an expensive cobra plan was the only way to get insurance.

Now with Obama care and policies can’t screen for pre existing conditions, I don’t get the point of cobra.

it can make sense IF you get shitcanned in the middle of the year and you can afford it and you’re in the middle of medical stuff and don’t want to switch horses midstream

What if the open enrollment period/new plan year is in the COBRA eligibility period? Asking for a friend haha

Meaning you’ve reached your OOP max by the time you’re fired in June or something and you get to have free services for the rest of the year ? I guess that makes sense.

Cons don’t use Obamacare. I’m daunted by “the exchanges.”

COBRA is just the employer plan iirc but without the employer paying part of the premium. It has to be a better deal than what you can get on your own, right?

I think they’re much most costly than you just paying the employer portion. I think they’re exorbitantly expensive for whatever reason. But you do the math.

You don’t need to use an “exchange”. You can just go to blue cross and buy a policy.

Im so confused and afraid. I think if you e ever done this your employer just paid the lion’s share so it seemed expensive without their contribution. It’s obviously the Same Plan.
