My gaming backlog is so utterly large it is too depressing to think about. So I have abandoned gaming and am working through films. I can watch 1-2 movies per day. Too many games take 40+ hours to clear. I could watch 20 movies in that time and feel a real sense of accomplishment. I watch foreign films at 2x speed since i'm just reading subtitles anyway so I can watch a 2 hour film in an hour. I work in film too so my wife doesnt see it as losery like gaming. Gaming is done here.

What about a Substack Backlog where you bookmark dozens of pseudo intellectual Jewish and boomer incoherent rambling "blogs" and then gradually work your way through them over time

i'm starting to think retrofags have the better attitude towards gaming, if you adjust for whatever post-32 bit era you liked the moast. don't try to keep up, you're over 30. just play what you like and find enjoyable as often or as rarely as you want with no pressure. i'm not going to learn anything new or have a cutting edge media experienthce playing bloodborne again for the 5th-20th time, but i'll enjoy popping it on and running around levels for an hour in a popcornish way. it's definitely better than rewatching movies imo.

Retro is credited imo because new games don’t really do much. They’re kind of The Same. And if we don’t appreciate retro Titles, no one will.

You should declare backlog bankruptcy and play the top-rated game on your list, according to Metacritic, that you haven't played yet, and go from there. Backlogs become oppressive only because you feel forced to play games in the order in which you add them, regardless of quality or interest.

the worst is tv show backlogs

took me weeks to get thru The Wire. I hadn't seen it since the year after it aired and forgot most of it. It was a great rewatch but that's 95% of what I watched the last 2 months

I thought everyone skipped the “Melfi scenes”

Carmella doesn’t do shit the whole series though. At least the Analyze This scenes give you an idea of what Tony’s thinking.

The Melfi scenes are actually good & important. A lot of funny lines too. Carmella shit goes nowhere. Especially her affair with AJs teacher. Pointless fluff

Cutting out current gen AAA slop helps a lot. these games take so long to play and reward you so little in return. but if you play them very rarely, like once a year, they can be fun.

example: if i tried to keep up with every assassins creed game and all the other open-world shit, I would want to kill myself. But I played Days Gone last year and had a blast with it. Wouldn't have been fun if I had played other games of that type, but in isolation it's good.

make massive cuts on the backlog by arbitrarily eliminating things that are the Same Game and just pick one, realizing you won't play them all. intersperse with games that can be quite fun even if you only play them an hour here or there, like 2D shooters and beatemups. Contra, Streets of Rage, etc.

Yeah I realized every modern game is just a different variation of the UE 5 engine and there is no need to play any of them. Maybe there is a good indie game every 2-3 years. Other than that just play old shit I missed when I was growing up hanging out with fat girls and playing sport

Give the Japanese/AAA or AA cross section a fair shake. Elden Ring, Soulslikes, Zelda, etc.

Dunno why everyone calls it that. You can use a Shield if you want. Some people are good at Parrying but I have no idea when to do it usually. I basically used magic in the demon’s souls remake and it was nbd, killed stuff from afar.
