assume:

- 9 hr drive from NYC (but I won't have a car)

- 2-3 hour flight I guess (haven't flown this route before)

- large extended family

What do most people do?

We can't have you out of pocket for 9 hours, so we strongly suggest that you take the flight assuming you decide to spend one or both holidays away from the firm. Please check in both immediately before your flight, and after as soon as connectivity is restored, as there are a number of ongoing high-priority matters that may need your attention. Of course, we have a firm commitment to work-life balance, so please feel free to spend some time with your family during the downtime between drafts, being mindful that we will still need to keep the ball rolling and be responsive to client requests at all times.

It is normal to spend both holidays with your family. Work can get in the way or be a convenient excuse if you don't feel like seeing the family.
