Why Julia is crazy

Date: April 18th, 2012 8:49 AM Author: supple seedy liquid oxygen It seems like there's a lot of speculation about why she does what she does, and based off my experiences interacting with her here and a few times off-board, I think I understand (to a degree) what her deal is.
So basically, about 2.5 - 3 years ago, not exactly sure, I white-knighted for her a bit in a thread where she was getting ripped up, and then interacted with her in a friendly way for a few more posts. Now, don't mistake the intention here - I fully realized she was crazy and probably full of shit at the time, but for some reason I either felt bad for her or thought people were overreacting.
She immediately started asking who I was, what I did, etc, and wanting to share stories about herself and more information. She asked me several times if she could contact me off XO, and I finally relented and gave her my throwaway gmail. She immediately hopped on there and started gushing out all kinds of details of her personal life, history, yada yada, as well wanting to know about me. I lied and told her I was a med student even though I worked in finance at the time.
This is where it got weird as she went on long crazy tangents about ex-boyfriends with me barely responding at all, spending a looooong time discussing the fact that one dude made X amount of money (I don't remember what, but I was loling at the salary she claimed for his position, which I guess she assumed I would have no knowledge of since she thought I was in med school), whining about men in general, and then finally rolling around to discussing XO.
But no matter what we discussed, the trajectory of the conversation would be that Julia would outline some sad story, then talk about how aspie and fucked up she was, then gently prod me to disagree. Eventually I stopped placating her with "yeah, that sounds unfair," type comments and she would actually get agitated. I understandably got bored and weirded out by this after about a half hour and signed off. During this period the ratio of words typed was probably 150 or so by me to several thousand by Julia. Brothers, if I had the transcript I would post it.
She tried to talk to me several more times (and usually like just a few seconds after I had logged into the account) and would pick up right in the middle of a rant, as in "So I was telling you about ____, and I remembered this one email he sent me four years ago where he tried to make me feel so stupid. Maybe I am dumb and aspie compared to him, I'm sure I am, I really screwed that up. Why would he try to hurt me like that?" That's not an actual quote, but the shit was along those lines and she would just launch into it, with me barely knowing what the fuck she was talking about.
I never actually responded to her again, but that didn't stop her from trying. She'd punch through several long, weird paragraphs at a time over gchat as if we were old, intimate friends, completely unprompted, until I finally blocked her and stopped using that account altogether.
Anyway, none of that is too insightful, but I think it says something about why she posts the way she does. She holds herself in incredibly high regard - it's hard to get a sense of this without talking to her live and just letting her roll, but she thinks she is truly a rare unicorn. She loves, and I mean LOVES discussing herself with men, who then tell her she's special/attractive/intelligent. This isn't the kind of Swiss Miss 'wanting acceptance from the bros' type of mentality, this is full blown obsession with receiving praise from men. Probably some armchair psychology there since her dad did seem to be an abusive and absentee bastard and she's worked in multiple industries were recognition from men was the thrust of her career, but I digress.
She goes about collecting this male attention in the way I described - outlines a sob story, negs herself, then waits patiently for you to say "nah, you're cool." The slightest hint of complementary attitude from the dude will send her to cloud nine and instigate rants about how baddass she actually is, and how she'd basically be running the world by this point (given the 1/10 billion combo of playmate looks and genius IQ she possesses), but she's been fucked over by her parents and a series of guys who held her back.
So in sum, XO is just kind of a platform for her to try to recruit dudes to listen to her crazy shit off-board and also to discuss herself generally. I think if you read her threads with the understanding that she's basically a wild egomaniac trolling for validation, the lies and weird insisted points make a lot of sense.

Julia, otoh, got an MBA from an institution with the same clout as the University of Phoenix (though she will talk for hours about how Tbird is extreeeeeeeeemly respected). Yet even with an mba her jobs and hobbies seem to revolve universally around her looks (stripper, "news anchor" on third rate "financial website," belly dancing instructor on YouTube (lol), online walk-out-onto-your-screen advertisement girl (double-lol), etc.) and she has no real job to cling to. All she has is some test that says she's smart and Scores (see what I did there!) of jobs (including prostitution!!!) that require no brains whatsoever and only require a pretty face.
She's a sad person and I feel bad for her. It's like she wanted her life to go a certain way so badly and now she's battling the fact that her only asset (and hence her only connection to some world and life she views as "prestigious") is fading as her skin dries up and she will soon be shut out of the only thing she was ever good at--using her looks.
But at least she can feel smart on here debating endlessly into the night about black swans... |

They had good turnout, most everyone is banking good $, and TBird actually gives out a lot of full scholarships + stipends so you do have students with 700+ GMATs who choose that school over others. They already have the name brand they need, so from what I've seen, Thunderbird for free or highly discounted is more appealing vs. any other b-school not named Harvard. Again, just observation from the alumni I met here.
Now, if I was American and going to work in America. Yeah, Thunderbird doesn't seem to make much sense. But, internationally it absolutely has a good network and won't hold anyone's career back. |
