as a preteen.
they basically robbed me of the right of enjoying the life of an ordinary person, because it doesn't matter that i can speak accentless English and Mandarin, and am well versed in both cultures, i'm fundamentally different from the ordinary person in either country, to the point that i would never be able to find an ordinary life in either country fulfilling.
fuck my parents, fuck my life.

i just want an ordinary, but fulfilling life, but that's closed off to me, thanks to my parents.
i think this is also true for a lot of Asian Americans.
i met a middle aged American born Asian dood recently. he has a pretty good job, married a white woman, has a mixed son. he told me that he still doesn't feel like he belongs here.

probably something like:
1. can't relate to the frat boy socializing. Not being able to tolerate alcohol doesn't help. Also asians emphasize piano more than team sports.
2. feel like you don't get more out of the sexual marketplace?

since i"ve seen your OKC profile.
:)
umm, what are your complaints? If I had to choose between China/Taiwan and the USA, I'd still choose the USA.

u have?
how?
i don't mind living in the US, just want a change, because i've been away from Asia forever.

When did you move?
You visited mine, so I saw yours.
In many ways I would have had an easier time in asia, and probably would have fit in better with the educational system over there than the USA. Like the whole white privilege thing? It applies to asians in asia.

"Came to the states to go to college ~5.5 years ago and did not speak English. I picked up the language so far, but still have an accent. Definitely working on it, and looking for someone to help me with it."
i came to the states 14 years ago, and i have no accent. so no, that's not me.

"TCKs are unlikely to work for big business, government, or follow their parents' career choices. "One won't find many TCKs in large corporations. Nor are there many in government ... they have not followed in parental footsteps".[21]"
"TCKs' sense of identity and well-being is directly and negatively affected by repatriation.[23]"
interesting.

here is a small anecdote why this is crippling:
i basically don't have any belongings beyond the bare essentials to function, because i know i may have to move in a few months or a year, and it means i would have to throw out/leave behind anything that's too large, or anything that's unnecessary. my apartment is barely furnished, and i have no desire to furnish it because i know i will prob be gone relatively soon.
this carries over to work. my office is also largely free of any personal items, because deep down i don't think i will work here for very long. this is obviously a problem, because they expect you to act like you will be here for the long haul. fuck that.

you can get decent, stylish furniture for cheap if you look around online or at a flea market. no reason not to have a couch and sofa chair in living room - can easily be had for under $1,000 total. for bedroom, get a bed and an ikea drawer. for kitchen, you can get a table and two chairs for less than $100. grand total for all this? under $2,000.
as for wall decorations, paintings and frames can easily be packed and shipped for minimal cost. you can do an accent wall in the living room on one saturday afternoon.
*BAM* your place looks decent, yet still minimalistic.
