I broke man, had a deep run, but we were not a powerhouse school
what is it like going to a big school? I can't imagine the pressure but also the resources to make you successful. how the hell are they so good year in and out?
How many hours a week did you work?

I went to a perennial powerhouse school, yeah. It's cool - the backfiles you have are insane, and the coaching is amazing. I do think I would've liked the experience of going to a school with a smaller program just for the sake of getting to do more on my own, though. The downside to being at a powerhouse school is that you're overcoached in some ways, and the coaches are living vicariously through you. I was kinda envious of bros who were legit "self-made" debaters. As to why we're so good year in and year out - mostly top-notch coaching (and even after the college kids leave, we find it easy to attract the new top high school grads to coach us), ridiculously extensive backfiles, and a horde of freshman and sophomores who are mostly TTT debaters but who are basically assigned to cut cards for the big boy debaters.
I worked probably 3-4 hours a day on weekdays and a little more on weekends, though obviously it fluctuated depending on what point in the season we were at. In the weeks leading up to TOC I was barely a real student at school.
Also, props on getting lots of bids/breaking despite not being from a powerhouse.
