in case u haven't noticed like every fuckin company in america has LE issues and these national boutiques do a lot of work for the fortune 500 companies so definitely enough work to go around and it is recession proof basically
all the ones OP mentioned pay six figures in major markets.. probably even in shittier places like phoenix and atlanta too

I worked at a F500, before law school. Most of the L&E inhouse attorneys came from actual L&E firms. Then there was a separate group of "corporate" attorneys that worked on contracts and acquisitions and shit.
Big companies are constantly sued for employment issues. Essentially, any black, any female, minority, or person over 50 has a colorful claim when they are terminated. But it seemed like the L&E attorneys basically handled mundane FMLA, ADA, and some labor shit. They would be involved with the lawsuits, but it was mostly farmed out to firms.
These guys weren't doing super exciting shit, but they had pretty decent lives. Made mid 100s, got decent bonuses, and worked sane hours (no weekends for the most part). I got to know them because we regularly played golf together after work.

Yes, they farmed out all trial work. The VP of the group (older attorney) supervised the trials. Seemed like the normal attorneys just monitored.
Day to day they handled LOTS of advisory stuff. Example: giving guidance to some redneck manager in Alabama to not retaliate against a lady with a disability (bullshit back injury). If a labor contract was up for negotiation, they would fly out and do that shit. If we needed to fire a union worker for missing work for the 10000th time, they'd pull out the CBA and give guidance.
Looking back and knowing what I know now, they really weren't doing any lawyerly shit you would do in a firm in terms of motion practice, etc.
BUT, they were "Legal." In-house prolish drones in the Corporate gave them mad respect. And instead of any random partner busting their balls/destroying their weekend, they just had one boss, like any other big company.

At my megacrop, if the potential liability crosses a certain monetary threshold or has some particular penalty (like a loss of license, etc) then it'll get farmed out. The lit attorney then essentially oversees it acting as the middle person between the business and outside counsel.
There are times when a matter doesn't meet the criteria for going to outside counsel, so then they get more heavily involved. Analyzing the issue to see whether the other side has a valid claim/dispute, and whether we should just pay now, negotiate the claim, or flat out reject.
They also get involved before there is a dispute when you know one is going to happen (either someone fucked up or we're about to deliver some really bad news to a counterparty, etc). We'll generally give them some background, and they may give us some guidance as to how to do it or that they may want to be on the call, etc.

i was looking at jackson lewis and littler. seems like they had a lot of F100 clients and people who left went in-house a lot into the clients.
i hate littler, btw. they're all from ttts and were super hostile toward me. jackson lewis had really nice folks.
