Miami beats Los Angeles and NYC hands down in many ways. Unless you are wealthy, rent and cost of living is just out of control in California and NYC. You can actually have a decent quality of life in Miami on a modest income (although Fort Lauderdale is actually a more credited place to live).
I lived in LA and hated it. Of course I was born in Florida and family is here so I am biased.
If you aren't latin than most white people live in Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach

I've spent months in FT Lauderdale it is exponentially better in every way.
Just avoid the ngrs and spics like every other city

What do you hate the most about Miami? What could you change if you could?
Edit: I have been to Miami only twice. Both times were pleasant.

Yea, it was this place: http://www.monkeyjungle.com/
I guess if you ever go to Key West, then you should probably just take a lil detour and hit it up. We had an awesome time. The best part was just being able to pull over at any moment driving through the keys and jump into the water.
I remember the airport in Miami sucking. What are your thoughts?

Even then, it's still a nice playground. Beaches, nightlife, beautiful people, art, etc. During season, it's tough to beat it. This assumes, of course, you'll avoid Ocean Drive/Collins. Stay south of Fifth at the Icon or Continuum, or someplace in Brickell.

Avoid South Beach prole clubs, such as SET, Mansion, etc. During season, places such as the Cameo can be ok on special event nights mid- week.
Nicer hotels offer some beautiful, mainstream spots. The Viceroy's 50th floor pool lounge, the SLS Hotel's bar, boîtes at the Fountainebleau....heck, even the good ole Delano can be ok during season. The bar at Juvia, the Mandarn Oriental, etc are also cool, as well as some of the beach clubs, such as La Piaggia. Nikki Beach is now prole.
I also like places in the Design District/Wynwood....the Vagabond, Lagniappe...also some Latin places in Brickell, such as Kukaramakara.

You definitely don't live in Miami. First you say avoid South Beach, then mention a bunch of bars you like in South Beach hotels. The "prole" places you're mentioning as if they are relevant are the clubs of 10 years ago. The SLS hotel bar? You mean out the back by the pool? It's ok for some day drinks but sucks at night. The Fountainbleu? I'd rather slit my throat than ever go back to Liv, what an awful prole filled shithold. The smaller lounge there (Arkadia?) was so-so but by no means good. By Delano do you mean FDR in the old Florida Room space? It's ok but by no means good.
Nikki Beach is "now" prole? When was Nikki Beach Miami ever not prole?
Summary: You're done here.

It's vacuous, but no more so than places like LA, Rio, etc.
If you don't speak Spanish, it's true that you'll be seen as an outsider, but for a Spanish speaker,it's an interesting place. Imagine if as an English speaker you lived in a place full of Aussies, Canadians, Brits, Kiwis, South Afriacsns, etc. Everyone speaks the same language, but the variation in cultures, accents, foods, etc still creates an interesting dynamic.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Miami, uh, uh
South beach, bringin' the heat, uh
Ha, ha, can y'all feel that, can y'all feel that?
Jig it out, uh
Here I am, in the place where I come, let go
Miami, the base and the sunset low
Everyday like a Mardi grass, everybody party all day
No work all play, okay
So we sip a little something, lay the rest the spill
Me an' Charlie at the bar running up a high bill
Nothin' less than ill when we dress to kill
Every time the ladies pass, they be like
(Hi, Will)
Can y'all feel me? All ages and races, real sweet faces
Every different nation, Spanish, Haitian, Indian, Jamaican
Black, White, Cuban, and Asian, I only came for two days of playing
But every time I come, I always wind up staying
This the type of town, I could spend a few days in
Miami, the city that keeps the roof blazing
Party in the city where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
(Bienvenido a Miami)
Bouncing in the club where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm going to Miami
Welcome to Miami
Yo, I heard the rainstorms, ain't nothin' to mess with
But I can't feel a drip on the strip, it's a trip
Ladies half dressed, fully equipped
And they be screaming out
(Will, we loved your last hit)
So I'm thinking, I'm a scoot me something hot
In this south sea meringue melting pot
Hottest club in the city and it's right on the beach
Temperature get to ya, it's about to reach
Five hundred degrees
In the Caribbean seas with the hot mommies screamin'
(Ay, papi)
Every time I come to town, they be spotting me
In the drop Bentley, ain't no stopping me
So, cash in your dough
And flow to this fashion show
Pound for pound anywhere you go
Yo ain't no city in the world like this
'An if you ask how I know I gots to plead the fifth
Party in the city where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
(Bienvenido a Miami)
Bouncing in the club where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm going to Miami
Welcome to Miami
Don't get me wrong, Chi-town got it going on
And New York is the city that we know don't sleep
And we all know that L.A. and Philly stay jiggy
But on the sneak, Miami bringing heat for real
Y'all don't understand
I never seen so many Dominican women
With cinnamon tans, MIRA this is the plan
Take a walk on the beach draw a heart in the sand
Gimmie your hand, damn you look sexy
Let's go to my yacht in the West Keys
Ride my jet skis loungin' in the palm trees
'Cause you gotta have cheese
For the summer house piece on South Beach
Water so clear, you can see to the bottom
Hundred thousand dollar cars, everybody got 'em
Ain't no surprise to see in the club to see Sly Stallone
Miami, my second home
Party in the city where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
(Bienvenido a Miami)
Bouncing in the club where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm going to Miami
Welcome to Miami
Party in the city where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
(Bienvenido a Miami)
Bouncing in the club where the heat is on
All night on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm going to Miami
Welcome to Miami
Party in the city where the heat is on
How accurate?

CR.
Miami is one of the best cities in the country, and if you like warm weather, no city is better. High temps between 75-90 year round, and unlike true shitholes, like Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, heck -- even DC -- it never reaches 100 degrees. Unlike SD or LA, the water is warm enough to swim in, and unlike Chicago or NYC, it never freezes. It's also cheap as fuck to live in a phat high rise with views of the bay, nearby keys, and downtown.

The only CR places to live for UMC in South Florida FOR THE RECORD are Jupiter/Juno Bch and Delray Beach.
If you have wealth MoreDoughHi nailed it above, you wouldn't be seen in Miami-Dade county...you'd have horses at the Polo Club or Keep your Boomer Cessna at the Aero Club in Wellington near Palm Beach.

Also very cr.
El Cid has made a complete 180 180 since mid 90s and is a legit historic neighborhood now.
I do like FTL (lighthouse point is Fantastic) and have spent much time there (would consider having a seasonal place there) but the Oakland Park NGR factor is a huge turn off.

1. You're almost 40 and are married with kids. What is your obsession with "pretty people", clubs, etc.?
2. Even if I overlooked 1, the concept is very subjective. Of course, you love Latinos so you're going to think Miami is "full of pretty people."
3. You otherwise lived in Latin America for quite some time and loved that, so it makes sense that if you live in the US because you have to but basically wish you lived in Latin America that Miami is your favorite.
Basically, most here don't value any of that so you're not going to get a ton of support. All of the above notwithstanding, I think Miami is one of the better second tier cities (much better than say, Denver or Columbus, Ohio).
