12/10/13 - FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Longtime employees and patients at Dr. Michael Huber's Fort Pierce dental office were grieving Tuesday with a black wreath on the front door.
"It's been very difficult for us to tell the patients 'I'm sorry but Dr. Huber and his children have perished in a plane accident.' They are all very upset," Office Manager Jenny Heller said.
Dr. Hubert and his daughters Abby and Tess were killed when their Cessna went down in Jacksonville on Sunday.

Phoenix couple killed in plane crash in Canada
Posted on June 3, 2013 at 11:08 AM
PHOENIX -- A Phoenix doctor and his wife were killed when their plane crashed in Ontario late last week.
Dr. Jim Beauchene, a well-known hand surgeon in Phoenix since 1987, and his wife, Brenda, were on their way to a tourist camp they owned north of Red Lake, which is a popular location for summer sports fishing and fall hunting. The couple reportedly planned to run a fly-in fishing camp full-time after Beauchene retired from medicine.
The Beauchenes' floatplane crashed in a lake during or shortly after takeoff Thursday evening. The couple's bodies were not recovered until Saturday.

8/5/13 - A Rockdale doctor and his wife were killed in a single-engine plane crash in southeast Georgia as they were flying back from Florida on Sunday.
Dr. Sid Shah, 58, and his wife Shama Gamkhar, 55, of Tucker were headed from Fernandina Beach, Fla. to Lawrenceville when the Hawker Beechcraft A36 single-engine aircraft he was piloting suddenly went down about 14 miles from the town of Alma, Georgia. Shah and his wife were the only ones in the six-passenger plane, which was registered to APS Aviation, LLC out of Jonesboro, Clayton County.
Bacon County Deputy Coroner Roy Crosby said a passerby discovered the crash and notified emergency medical personel just before noon. He said there was no fire at the crash site.
The weather was good that day, said Crosby. "He was on an instrument flight plan with Jacksonville Center. They lost him at 5,000 feet," said Crosby. "He just came down in the treetops at a high rate of speed."

Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane was registered to Dr. Thomas S. Wilson, of Mooresville, a community near Charlotte, N.C. A Burke hospital official said Wilson worked in Waynesboro for NES.
"I'm sorry, we are so shaken up," said a spokeswoman for NES Healthcare Group, which handles emergency department staffing for Burke Medical Center. "He was with us a long time."

1/27/12 - drunk doctor crashes plane kills family
http://www.americanownews.com/story/16616625/investigation-alcohol-caused-lufkin-doctors-plane-crash
LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - An investigation has determined that a Lufkin doctor crashed his plane because he had been drinking, causing the death of himself and two other people.
The NTSB investigation listed the probable cause as "the pilot's impairment due to alcohol ingestion and his failure to maintain airplane control during an approach at night in instrument meteorological conditions."
According to the report, Taylor Pickett, 52, arrived at the New Orleans airport at 3:20 a.m. on April 10 after going to a bar. Pickett did not obtain a weather briefing or file an instrument flight rules flight plan.
After leaving the airport in a Cessna 310R at 4:08 a.m., Pickett reported to air traffic control that he had the destination airport in sight at McComb, Miss., at 4:23 a.m.
The report states that clouds kept Pickett from seeing the airport and he overflew it. He then took a left turn before crashing the plane.
Toxicological testing revealed that Pickett was "impaired due to alcohol ingestion," according to the report. The report states that the investigation did not reveal any mechanical malfunctions on the plane.
Pickett and his wife, Laura Pickett, 22, and his sister-in-law, Jacqueline Ham died in the accident.
Pickett was a thoracic surgeon on staff at Lufkin Memorial Hospital.

3/8/2010 - Dr. Evan Zeiger was killed Saturday afternoon when his AT6-Texan, a World War II era stunt plane, crashed about a mile offshore from Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, located between Grayton Beach and Miramar Beach. The plane sank shortly after impact.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team helped locate the aircraft and recovered the two bodies inside. Zeiger's female passenger has not been identified. An autopsy will be performed Monday at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Fort Walton Beach.
A salvage team from Atlanta will work to recover the aircraft so the FAA and NTSB can examine the wreckage to help determine what may have gone wrong.

Ho-Lee-Fuk... Never realized it was such a compulsion among boomer docs to fly their own planes and subsequently crash and die.
No joke though, my uncle is a retired doc and took up flying/got his pilots license shortly before retiring. Still flies now, maybe I should warn him.
On the upside, at least their kids are able to inherit some of their wealth before the boomers do Boomers gonna boom and spend it all on flying their own planes to lavish vacations in Europe.

10/01/2011 - As authorities continue to investigate a plane crash in Grayson County, we are learning more about the pilot killed in the crash. We now know the man was an ER doctor living in Louisville.
WDRB briefly spoke with one of Dr. Lyle Moss' sons at his home--who was too upset to talk, but an old friend felt moved to talk on behalf of the family. Sheila Schuster handed over the key to her home in the highlands this week to its new owners. "We closed on Tuesday and we said to them, oh you've got great next door neighbors."
Those neighbors were Lyle and Kathy Moss, who she had grown fond of. "They had given up his practice in Houston and they moved here so they could be close to their son," said Schuster.
So close, their son--also a pilot-- actually lives on the street behind them. "They loved it so much they talked their other son and his wife from upstate NY to move," she laughed.
The 61 year old was a dedicated ER doctor who had a hobby on the side--flying. "I think it was that freedom that flying gives you. It was a thrill for him, it took him up and away," Schuster said.

8/29/13 - Danville, VA - Shawn Etcher, an air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, spoke to media Friday afternoon about the fatal plane crash in Danville Thursday night.
He says his team has been gathering information all day, but the investigation process will take a while to complete.
Etcher says the man who died in the plane crash, Dr. Scott Banuelos, was a student pilot. They do not know yet how many hours he had of experience.
He says Banuelos was flying a Pipe Warrior II plane solo when the crash happened.
Officials say as far as they know, the instructor was on the ground watching Banuelos fly the plane.
Members of the NTSB will be on the scene of the crash until tomorrow, when the plane will be loaded and transported to their facilities in Delaware for further analysis.

8/03/2012 - TRUCKEE, Calif. -- Officials have identified a 66-year-old pilot killed in a plane crash as a northern California emergency room doctor who was leaving for a humanitarian medical mission in Mexico.
Nevada County coroner's officials say James Richard Ungar of Yreka (wy-REE'-kuh) was killed on impact when his Piper Comanche hit a hangar at the Truckee-Tahoe Airport in Truckee shortly after takeoff Thursday morning. An Auburn-based nonprofit called Los Medicos Voladores, or The Flying Doctors, says Ungar was a volunteer pilot who flew doctors to Mexico and Central America.
Group spokesman Adrian Fenderson says Ungar had two passengers aboard the single-engine aircraft when he attempted and aborted a takeoff.
Fenderson says Ungar was concerned there wasn't enough lift and told the passengers to leave the plane before he made his ill-fated second takeoff.

9/26/13 - The victims of a plane crash in Bolingbrook have been identified as a surgeon from Kentucky and his wife who were flying to the Chicago area to attend a medical conference, according to police and co-workers.
One of the deceased was identified as Dr. Narayan Venguswamy, 63, of Georgetown, Kentucky, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The man was a licensed pilot and the couple was in a small single-engine plane to Clow Airport when it hit a tree, a light pole and three cars before coming to rest in the parking lot of a Chase Bank branch at 262 S. Weber Rd. around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to Bolingbrook Police Lt. Michael Rompa.
The plane burst into flames as Venguswamy staggered away from the wreckage, according to witnesses. "We kept telling him to roll," said Mike Grohar, 30. "He kept asking to get his wife out."
Venguswamy's wife Jay died at the scene. Venguswamy was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital with severe burns, then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was declared dead at 5:45 a.m. today, officials said.

The “Doctor Killer” got it’s reputation from being too much aircraft for an amateur pilot. The Beechcraft Bonanza is a radical design, low-wing, fixed landing gear aircraft with a signature V-tail introduced in 1947 by the Beech Aircraft Corporation of Wichita, Kansas. It is currently still in production by Hawker Beechcraft. It is one of the most influential aircrafts in history. More than 17,000 Bonanzas of all types have been produced.
The V-35 Beech Bonanza is the first truly modern high-performance personal aircraft. The signature V-tail is unconventional structuring of the tail. By replacing the horizontal design of the tail with a V-shaped configuration made up of two hinged pieces, the tail now combine the tasks of rudders and elevators – now affectionately called “ruddervators.”
Why the “Doctor Killer”
It earned the nickname “Doctor Killer” due to a series of fatal accidents. The V-35 Bonanza is expensive, high performance, and a very popular personal plane among high class professionals, such as doctors. However, it is extremely difficult to fly due to its high speed flutter, and inexperienced pilots with low hours are more susceptible to making an error resulting in a crash.
The tails have been known to shed so the early Bonanza’s have actually added cuffs to the base of the ruddervators to strengthen the structure. The aircraft is known for being faster than most personal planes due to the effort in decreasing the dampened area of the airframe to increase speed.
A lot of accidents occur due to error in judgment on the pilot’s part. Pilots have been known to take off into snowstorms, thunderstorms, or just any conditions in general that warrant danger.

4/20/12 - Three days before his plane plunged into the Gulf of Mexico last week, Slidell physician Peter Hertzak was banned by the Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners from ever again performing any of the plastic and cosmetic surgeries he was known for. State medical licensing authorities on April 16 found that Hertzak, 65, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, had not educated himself sufficiently to safely carry out extensive cosmetic or plastic procedures in conjunction with his gynecological surgeries.
The board also concluded that Hertzak demonstrated substandard practice in a number of instances by scheduling such risky procedures and not suspending them when his patients were in apparent distress; and that he falsely represented his credentials on the Internet.
Hertzak on Thursday was flying solo from Slidell to Sarasota, Fla., when he became incapacitated more than an hour into the flight and crashed about 150 miles south of Crestview, Fla. His Cessna 421 sank 1,500 feet to the Gulf floor; and after the Coast Guard on Friday suspended an unsuccessful search for the doctor, the National Transportation Safety Board began an investigation.

3/19/14 - A plane crash which killed four people may have been caused by the pilot switching to an empty tank of fuel, an inquest has heard.
The pilot and three parachutists died when the Cessna crashed five miles from Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon. Scroll down for more... {4} Royal Marine Major Mike Wills, aged 44, was hailed a hero after the crash after it emerged he had sacrificed his own life to save an air cadet making his first parachute jump for charity. The Major braced himself against a bulkhead and took the full force of the impact so 16-year-old rookie skydiver Daniel Greening would be saved. Daniel, from Kingsteignton, Devon and parachutist Daniel Batchelor, aged 26, from Taunton, were the only survivors of the crash three years ago. Pilot Dr Paul Norman, aged 52, from Salisbury, jump master Richard Smith, aged 42, and his daughter Claire, aged 17, both from Okehampton, Devon, also died in the crash. Pilot Dr Norman was chief scientist for chemical and biological defence at the Porton Down weapons establishment but was also an experienced flier and parachutist. Air Accident Investigation Branch investigator Mr Nicholas Dann told the inquest Dr Norman had been involved in a previous incident in which he aborted a landing after switching fuel supply during take off. Scroll down for more... {6} He said the engine was heard spluttering before Dr Norman crashed as he hit high trees while trying to reach a clearing in dense woodland. He said after the crash fuel was seen leaking from the tank in the right wing of the Cessna 206 but the supply was switched to the tank in the left wing. He said records of refueling were not kept accurately enough to say how much, if any fuel was in the left side tank. {5} He said: "There is no requirement to keep records but it would have been good practice. It would enable the pilot to know how much fuel he had in which tank. "There would have been sufficient fuel on the aircraft to have completed the flight. It is possible he changed tanks immediately prior to the accident to try to sort out the problem. "As the level of fuel in a tank drops it is likely that more air and less fuel will progressively be drawn in leading to increasingly intermittent operation and finally to complete loss of power."

6/13/14 - Dr. Richard Rockefeller, son of the billionaire and prominent philanthropist David Rockefeller, was killed Friday morning when the small plane he was piloting crashed shortly after takeoff, according to a spokesman for the family.
Dr. Rockefeller, 65, was the only person on board the plane, which the authorities identified as a Piper Meridian single-engine turboprop.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
Dr. Rockefeller took off from Westchester County Airport at 8:08 a.m., departing from runway 16 into dense fog and steady rain. Less than 10 minutes into the flight, the Federal Aviation Administration notified airport officials that it could not reach the pilot.
At 8:23 a.m., the local police reported that the plane had crashed less than a mile from the airport, near Cottage Avenue in the town of Harrison. It had smashed through several trees and narrowly missed an occupied house before hitting the ground and breaking into pieces, the authorities said.

Victims in Chicago-Area Crash Were Kansas Doctors
A Kansas hospital system has identified three physicians as victims of a small plane crash in suburban Chicago.
Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka said Monday that the victims of Sunday night's plane crash included two of its doctors.
They were neurosurgeon Tausif Rehman and pulmonologist Ali A. Kanchwala.
Stormont-Vail also identified the third victim as Kanchwala's wife. She was Maria Javaid, a cardiologist at the Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
The National Transportation Safety Board said there were no obvious reasons why their twin-engine Beechcraft Baron plane crashed in the Chicago suburb of Palos Hills shortly after a takeoff from Midway's International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was flying to Lawrence, Kansas.

This one has an XO connection:
A Harvard University graduate who made headlines in 2006 for plagiarizing her first novel was mourning her parents Sunday after they perished in an Ohio plane crash.
Kaavya Viswanathan's mother and father where killed when their single-engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus.
Dr. Viswanathan Rajaraman, chief of neurooncology at Hackensack University Medical Center's cancer center, and his wife, Mary Sundaram, were headed home to Franklin Lakes, N.J., when tragedy struck, officials said.
Rajaraman, a licensed pilot, was at the controls when the private Cirrus CR22 aircraft, registered to a Franklin Lakes company, went down.
Investigators said the couple flew to Columbus on Friday after visiting their daughter in Washington, D.C., where she had been enrolled in law school at Georgetown University. They refueled shortly before taking off Sunday.
N.J.-based doctor Dr. Vishy Rajaraman died with his wife, Mary Sundaram, when his plane went down shortly after takeoff from Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
While still in high school, Kaavya Viswanathan, 24, received a $500,000 book contract for her novel "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life."
The book was published by Little, Brown and Co. while the author was a sophomore at Harvard. Within a month, Viswanathan was exposed as a plagiarizer when the Harvard Crimson newspaper found dozens of passages in her novel that were similar to two of Megan McCafferty's books, "Sloppy Firsts" and "Second Helpings."
Viswanathan, then 19, apologized after Little Brown stripped her of a two-book contract and pulled her novel from bookstores.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A Kansas medical community is mourning three doctors who were killed in a plane crash late Sunday.
The physicians were traveling to Lawrence from Chicago when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane crashed in the suburban community of Palos Hills.
One of the doctors, Dr. Maria Javaid, worked at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, where the crash has had an impact on her patients and co-workers.
Providence issued a statement late Monday calling Javaid a "kind and caring physician on our staff who connected with her adoring patients with great listening skills and thoughtful input."
The hospital said it will have chaplains and counselors available to help staff members who need them.
Javaid's husband, pulmonologist Dr. Ali Kanchwala, and his colleague, neurosurgeon Dr. Tausif Rehman, worked at Topeka-based Stormont-Vail HealthCare.
"We are heartbroken," Stormont-Vail said in a release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these individuals and the staff who worked closely with them. These were highly trained, specialized doctors and their expertise, vigor and friendship will be greatly missed."
The three were making the trip to Lawrence in a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron. The plane crashed in a field, narrowly missing dozens of houses.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

From NTSB prelim report. Sounds like a likely peak experience before impact:
On October 12, 2014, about 2240 central daylight time, a Beechcraft model 58 airplane, N31EW, piloted
by a private pilot, was destroyed when it impacted trees and terrain in Palos Hills, Illinois. The
pilot and two passengers sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft was registered to ARC Aviation LLC and
operated by the pilot under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal
flight. Marginal visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight, which was not on a flight
plan. The flight originated about 2235 from the Midway International Airport (MDW), Chicago, Illinois,
and was en route to the Lawrence Municipal Airport, Lawrence, Kansas.
Preliminary radar track information showed that the airplane departed runway 22L at MDW and began
climbing on runway heading (220 degrees). When the airplane had reached an altitude of about 2,200
feet above mean sea level (msl), it turned about 30 degrees to the left to a heading of about 190
degrees and began descending. During the descent, the airplane then turned to the right to a heading
of about 260 degrees. During the right turn the airplane descended to about 1500 feet msl and then
started to climb. During this period, the airplane entered a left turn which continued for about 360
degrees before radar contact was lost. The final recorded altitude was about 2,000 feet msl.
At 2238, the weather conditions at MDW were: wind 170 degrees at 9 knots; 6 statute miles visibility;
mist; a broken ceiling at 1,000 feet above ground level (agl); an overcast ceiling at 1,400 feet agl;
temperature 15 degrees Celsius; dew point 13 degrees Celsius; altimeter setting 29.89 inches of
mercury. The field elevation at MDW was 620 feet msl.
The accident location was in a residential area about 6 nautical miles southwest of MDW. The initial
impact point was within a group of trees. Broken limbs and the condition of the wreckage was
consistent with a near vertical attitude at impact. The majority of the wreckage remained at the
initial impact point while smaller pieces of wreckage were spread in a fan shaped pattern to the
southeast. All major airframe components were located and identified within the wreckage debris path.
The entire airplane exhibited severe crushing and fragmentation of all components. The wreckage was
removed from the accident site for further examination.

A doctor from the Draper area died when a single-engine plane he was piloting crashed near the Great Salt Lake.
Dr. Robert LaVon Moody, 69, is believed to have been the only occupant of the plane when it crashed, according to the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office.
The wreckage was found Saturday morning near Eardley Spit, an area just off Stansbury Island. Investigators believe heavy fog may have affected Moody's vision, contributing the crash.
A statement from Moody's family said the doctor went out on a solo flight Friday. When he did not return as expected, family members called law enforcement officials to report him as overdue.

NORFOLK
They'd spent a happy week together in the Florida Keys: three childhood friends from snowy New York, reunited for some sailing and sunshine.
But the vacation was over, and Michael Buxton, a local child psychologist and experienced pilot, was flying his friends back to Hampton Roads in a friend's single-engine plane.
The men died together early Wednesday when the plane crashed into a wooded area at Norfolk Botanical Garden. Family and friends identified the other two victims as 60-year-old Billy Shaver and 62-year-old Ted Reinhardt, both of the Buffalo, N.Y., area.
Deborah Childs, Buxton's partner of 11 years, said the friends had spent time aboard Buxton's sailboat in the Keys. Their families vacation together every summer in New York's Thousand Islands, but this time it was just the three guys.
"It was long overdue for them to get together again," Childs said.
Shaver was finally pain-free after back surgery and his wife urged him to go, Childs said. Reinhardt, a jazz fusion drummer, was often busy but finally had some time off.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, with investigators looking at the weather, the condition of the aircraft and the experience of the pilot, among other things. In addition to the state police, the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Dennis Diaz, an NTSB investigator, said a preliminary report on the crash should be complete in about 10 days. A final report will take at least nine months.
He said the plane - a four-seat Mooney M20F - did not have a flight data recorder or a cockpit voice recorder.
According to the National Weather Service, visibility was poor early Wednesday morning as Buxton flew into Hampton Roads. Fog and mist were rolling in as a warm front moved through the area. By 3:35 a.m., it was hard to see more than a mile and a quarter. Twenty minutes later, it was down to 3/4 of a mile.
The NTSB said the plane last took off from Palatka Municipal Airport in Palatka, Fla., where it had stopped to refuel. According to Flightaware.com, the plane left Palatka at 11:57 p.m. Tuesday and was expected to land at Suffolk Executive Airport at 3:23 a.m.
After approaching the Suffolk airport, Buxton diverted to Norfolk International Airport, where he could use his instruments and receive assistance from the tower.
The plane appeared to crash on its second attempt at landing, according to the website.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Julian Williamson said the plane was approaching runway 23 at Norfolk. He said it was about two miles away when it made a final transmission to the tower, then lost contact.
Childs flew with Buxton, 61, of Portsmouth, regularly and said he wouldn't have been unnerved by the conditions.
"I've been with him in all kinds of weather," she said Wednesday. "We've landed on icy runways, in blizzard whiteout conditions, in heavy winds that were making us move sideways where he compensated and came right down in the middle of the runway. He was a very skilled pilot."
Jim Beauchamp of Corapeake, N.C., the plane's registered owner, also described Buxton as a "very competent, conscientious pilot." He said he'd flown with Buxton many times - including to Key West - and regularly lent him the plane. He added that Buxton was the current leader of the Norfolk chapter of the Quiet Birdmen, a national aviator group.
"Whether it was gremlins or fate, I don't want to speculate," Beauchamp said of the crash. "I was shocked to find out, and I mourn for his family. The airplane is just a vehicle, and it can be replaced. It's a very unfortunate situation, and I'll miss him."
Kent Marshall, manager of Suffolk Executive Airport, noted that it doesn't have a control tower, so in poor visibility pilots usually go to Norfolk.
It took hours for first responders to find the wreckage. The Coast Guard and Navy sent vessels to search nearby waters.
State Police Lt. Curtis Hardison said the plane was found about 7:20 a.m. in the garden - mostly intact but upside down.
Buxton was a child psychologist who worked in the Virginia Beach school system before opening his own practice in the city. Childs said he moved to the area after getting his doctorate from the College of William & Mary; he advocated for children with autism and special needs.
"He was the most generous person I ever met," Childs said. "He lived life to the fullest. He was a renaissance man - there was just about nothing that he didn't know how to do."
Buxton's children are grown, Childs said, and he treated her three daughters and four grandchildren as his own.
In addition to flying, Buxton loved scuba diving, skiing and sailing - which he learned to do as a boy on the St. Lawrence River.
He was interested in politics, too. He ran unsuccessfully in 2012 to become chairman of the Portsmouth Republican Party.
His opponent, Bryan Meals, said Buxton had a large personality.
"He was full of life. He was always there with a smart quip, always the first to suggest we go get a libation."
Buxton was one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed by Portsmouth residents trying to stop tolls at the Midtown and Downtown tunnels. A large sticker stating "No Tolls" is posted on the mailbox at the mouth of Buxton's driveway in Portsmouth's South Park Manor neighborhood.
"He was very involved early on," said Terry Danaher, another plaintiff and anti-toll organizer.
No one answered the door at Buxton's one-story brick house Wednesday afternoon. A wooden sign that says "The Buxtons" is nailed to one of a dozen or so 50-foot trees that surround the house.
At the end of the long, winding driveway were a barbecue grill and several small boats. On the grass of the front lawn sat a red Chevrolet Sonic sedan - with New York tags.
Allan McKinney moved into a house near Buxton's about a year and a half ago.
"I'm saddened because he was a happy person," he said. "Some people are miserable and don't enjoy life. But he made it a point to do what he liked."
McKinney said he saw a photo of Buxton dressed in a suit in Wednesday's media reports. But the neighbor he knew "was more of a T-shirt and jeans guy."
He said Buxton frequently took his boat out to go fishing.
"He was the kind of guy who thought a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work," McKinney said.
The plane crashed in the garden's Enchanted Forest section, which is on the north end of the property just past the popular Butterfly House. Oak, hickory and pine trees tower over dirt paths.
The area features azalea bushes and a wooden tree stump with a checkers game carved into it.
Diaz, the NTSB investigator, said a Delaware company will remove the plane wreckage today.
The garden will be closed to the public "until further notice," according to its website. All classes and programs scheduled for Wednesday and today have been postponed.

Another doctor killed his family yesterday.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/pilot-tells-air-traffic-controller-pre-crash-power-32100834
"Police have tentatively identified the three people killed when their small plane crashed into a Massachusetts home as a Tennessee doctor, his wife and college-age daughter.
Plainville police say they believe the pilot of the Beechcraft BE36 plane that crashed Sunday was Joseph Richard Kalister, an emergency room physician, his wife, Betty, and daughter, Nicole, who was 18 or 19. The family lived in Knoxville.
Police Chief Jim Alfred says the identities are still unconfirmed because of the extent of the injuries. He says the state medical examiner will have to do further testing to make positive identifications.
All four residents of the Plainville home escaped unharmed.
Minutes before the crash, the pilot calmly told an air traffic controller he has no engine power and is gliding in the minutes before impact."
I was pretty sure it was going to be a doctor yesterday, but they just confirmed 20 minutes ago.

My father owned a Warrior plane. We were in Rhode Island and he fucking crashed the thing on me. We both survived airplane totaled, FAA came out, state troopers.
Basically what happened was he overshot the landing due to an air bubble. Plane dropped 3/4 down the runway. Plane went over the runway (he turned to me and said "we aren't going to make it) went down a ditch, turned on its side and went through a fence onto the main road (not much traveled).
We walked out, I hit my head not bad though. Planes props were fucked and wings all chipped. The fireblock was done. Long story short, the FAA guy said he tried to touch and go we were dead b/c of the trees and cable wires - we wouldn't have cleared

Bonnyville doctor killed in plane crash
Edmonton Journal
July 28, 2015
The Bonnyville Healthcare Centre’s chief pathologist was the pilot killed Sunday in a plane crash east of Lac La Biche.
Dr. Shekar Puttaswamy had worked in the town of about 6,000 since 2006 and his death is a “deep shock” to the community, Mayor Gene Sobolewski said Tuesday.
“He’s going to be sorely missed in the role he played as our pathologist in the health community.”
Puttaswamy’s single-engine Cessna 182 went down near Seibert Lake.
Puttaswamy was the only person on board.
Puttaswamy had a passion for flying and often talked about it. When not in the air, he could be found on his boat in Moose Lake, Sobolewski said.

Florence doctor dies in plane crash in AR
Whitney Hill
Aug 25, 2015 01:49 AM
FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Florence man died in a plane crash on Sunday, August 23, in Union County, Arkansas, according to Union County Coroner Curtis Butterfield.
Dr. John Steven Jobe, age 51, was flying a flight from Florence Regional Airport to South Arkansas Regional Airport, according to the Flight Aware website and Coroner Butterfield.
Coroner Butterfield says Dr. Jobe died of blunt force trauma and Jobe’s body and plane were engulfed by fire.
The crash happened around 12:15 p.m. Sunday at the South Arkansas Regional Airport at Goodwin Field.
Union County Sheriff Mike McGough said they received a call of a plane going down near the runway in a wooded area. McGough said area residents reported hearing and feeling the impacts of the crash. When authorities got to the scene, they found a small, private plane and the pilot deceased.
An autopsy and toxicology tests will be performed on Jobe’s body in Little Rock, Arkansas on Monday, Coroner Butterfield states.
Coroner Butterfield says Jobe’s plane likely ran out of gas due to him being re-routed because of storms in the area and that there were winds in El Dorado during the time of the crash.
The crash happened near magnolia highway in a wooded area and the five units that were dispatched to the scene were able to get the fire put out, according to Bill Hickman, Chief Deputy Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Jobe was on a two-week vacation that included stops at the Grand Canyon.
Jobe practiced medicine atPee Dee Pathology.
On Monday, the office released this following statement to WMBF News.
“We are deeply sadden by the loss of our colleague and friend. John was an integral part of the practice for 17 years and carried deeply for our patients
He will be sorely missed,” said Dr.Dr. Tarek M. Bishara.
Jobe's neighbors decribe him as a nice, but private man.
“It’s crazy to think about because he was always there. He was just John, always around it weird to think about…it’s just strange,” said Mason Mclamb who lived next door to Jobe.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee–Knoxville.
Jobe is survived by two brothers and his father.
The National Transportation Safety Board is on scene, investigating the plane crash.

A Cheshire man was killed and his son injured when their airplane crashed on Hanover Street adjacent to Meriden-Markham Airport Monday evening, authorities said.
Joseph T. Tomanelli, 56, died in the crash and his son Daniel, 21, was injured and hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, Wallingford police Deputy Chief Marc Mikulski said Monday night. Tomanelli is a physician with an office in Wallingford.
A Federal Aviation Administration official said Monday night that the aircraft that crashed was a small, single-engine Cirrus SR22. FAA spokesman Jim Peters said the aircraft was doing practice takeoffs and landings when the crash occurred about 6:30 p.m.
The aircraft appeared to be attempting to land when it crashed through a chain link fence, crossed Hanover Street and struck a berm, bursting into flames, police said.
Daniel Tomanelli was found yards from the wreckage, Mikulski said. It was unclear whether he crawled out, was helped from the plane or was thrown.

Two occupants found dead after missing aircraft located in British Columbia
A small plane that went missing after departing from Springbank Airport on Thursday morning has been found in British Columbia and the two occupants did not survive.
Officials with the Maritime Force Pacific's joint rescue coordination centre in Victoria, B.C. say the plane took off at 10:00 a.m. and was slated to make a stop in Kelowna before reaching its final destination of Nanaimo.
"Last night (Thursday) we detected a 406 Megahertz emergency locator transmitter and, because it was registered with the Canadian beacon registry, we were able to figure out very quickly which aircraft it was on and that the aircraft was on a flight plan from the Calgary area to Kelowna,” said Major Justin Olsen, officer in charge.
Olsen says unfavourable weather conditions exacerbated the aerial serarch with helicopters and a Buffalo. The aircraft was believed to be in a mountainous area between Merritt and Hope, approximately 170 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, and the search area was approximately two square kilometres The beacon is typically activated by the pilot during an emergency or following a crash.
The aircraft was located Friday afternoon and the two occupants were found dead.
The pilot of the aircraft has been identified as Ken Umbach, a retired geophysicist, who was the owner of the Cessna182 and the passenger has been identified as Dr. Terry Stewart, an anesthesiologist at the Alberta Children's Hospital.
The British Columbia Coroners Service has been notified of the deaths.

A Minnesota doctor was found dead in the wreckage of a private airplane Thursday morning south of Duluth, more than 12 hours after the flight failed to arrive at its destination in the Twin Cities.
The single-engine plane, bound for the Crystal Airport, was located in a river about 7 a.m. northwest of the runway of the Moose Lake Carlton County Airport following a search and rescue operation, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Map: Carlton County Airport and Crystal Airport
The pilot was identified as Thomas Stillwell, 65, of Plymouth. Stillwell, a well-known urologist associated with North Memorial and Fairview health systems, was recently named a Top Doctor by Mpls.St. Paul Magazine.
He was a Navy veteran who served as a surgical field medic in the Gulf War and had for decades flown to rural communities such as Sandstone, Moose Lake and Grantsburg, Wis., to treat patients.
“I love to fly,” he said in a 2016 interview with Minnesota Flyer. “I think being a pilot is part of your genetics. It’s somewhere deep in you that, once it gets tapped, it’s kind of hard to resist. You must feed this need. If you don’t, you’re not happy.”
Randy Ciche, head of maintenance at the Moose Lake airport, said the plane was routinely used by Stillwell to do medical outreach around the state.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board will work to determine the cause of the crash.
Weather in the area at the time was not ideal for flying, according to the National Weather Service. Rain was changing to heavy snow, dropping visibility to less than a mile, said meteorologist Chris O’Brien.
Sustained winds of 10 mph were gusting up to roughly 20 mph, O’Brien added.
The plane had a flight plan filed with a 4:30 p.m. departure Wednesday from the Moose Lake and a 5:15 p.m. arrival planned in Crystal, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
After the scheduled arrival time passed, the FAA contacted authorities in Carlton County and neighboring Pine County to the south.
That notification set off searches of airports in Cloquet, Moose Lake and Hinckley by sheriff’s deputies from Carlton and Pine counties.
Radar for major airports in Duluth and the Twin Cities failed to pick up the plane.
The 32-year-old Mooney M20J is registered with the FAA as being owned by the nonprofit Club Cherokee and has the Crystal Airport as its address.
“The Minnesota aviation community is a close-knit family, and any time there is an aircraft incident, we are all affected,” club manager Bruce Killam said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “The pilot … was a long-standing and highly regarded member of Club Cherokee.”

Doctor killed in plane crash while preparing for Florida air show
A plane crash ahead of a Florida air show has left the pilot, a doctor, dead, officials said.
The crash reportedly happened on Friday afternoon at Witham Field, where the Stuart Air Show was scheduled for this past weekend.
“It was in its practice routine and it went nose down into the runway,” Treasure Coast Newspapers reported Chris Kammel, bureau chief of Martin County Fire Rescue EMS, said.
The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk airplane was reportedly fully engulfed in flames and witnesses outside the airport reported seeing black smoke after the crash. The fire was quickly extinguished.
The Stuart Air Show posted a picture of the doctor on Instagram and wrote, “On Friday, November 1, 2019, we lost Dr. Joseph Masessa while preparing for this weekend’s event. Joe was a beloved performer of the air show, a local Floridian, and will forever be family.”
“He will always be remembered as we move forward in future endeavors. On behalf of the Audi Stuart Air Show, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Masessa family.”
Masessa, a dermatologist, worked at five locations across New Jersey, as well as at a Florida office, according to WABC-TV.
Sheriff William Snyder of the Martin County Sheriff's Office reportedly said Masessa, an experienced pilot, had performed at the air show in previous years and was from South Florida.

Resigned hospital exec Andy Teuber missing after helicopter disappears near Kodiak
The Coast Guard found wreckage from a helicopter near Kodiak Island and was searching Tuesday night for its pilot, recently resigned health care executive Andy Teuber.
A flight record shows Teuber’s helicopter left Merrill Field in Anchorage at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday. The Coast Guard says Teuber was the only person on board.
He resigned last week as chairman and president of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. He resigned the same day from the University of Alaska Board of Regents.
He gave no reason for his resignations at the time. The Anchorage Daily News revealed Tuesday evening that his 27-year-old former executive assistant accused him of abusive treatment and coerced sex. Teuber described the relationship as consensual in an email to the paper Monday.
Teuber is 52. He is listed in state records as the sole shareholder of Kodiak Helicopters LLC, which owns the missing helicopter.
The black and white Robinson R66 was last seen northeast of Kodiak. A family member told the Coast Guard Teuber intended to fly to the island that afternoon.
