That youth unemployment is still high is the effect of numerous economic vectors -- such as postponed Boomer retirements and the cascade effect of unemployment, in general.

But please, do explain how youths leaning Dem has since 2006 (height of the Bush presidency & economic boom/bubble) has caused their own economic misfortune.

Again, I'd like to hear how IN 2006 this was true.

Lolololol. TY for citing an arch-conservative publication to make your crazy rapetile "argument".

No, there isn't a fixed supply of jobs IN THE LONG TERM.

There is, however, a fixed supply of jobs and job candidates at ANY GIVEN TIME.

This is an area of much academic debate, but the evidence seems to favor that notion that certain *groups* of applicants are favored/at a disadvantage based on the specific factors/vectors acting at a single point in the economic cycle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lump_of_labour_fallacy

In economics, the lump of labour fallacy (or lump of jobs fallacy, fallacy of labour scarcity, or the zero-sum fallacy, from its ties to the zero-sum game) is the contention that the amount of work available to labourers is fixed. It is considered a fallacy by most economists,[1] who hold that the amount of work is not static. Another way to describe the fallacy is that it treats the demand for labour as an exogenous variable, when it is not.

I AM NOT ARGUING THAT LABOR IS FIXED. Labor supplies and availability wax and wane, just as GDP does.

I AM ARGUING THAT CERTAIN GROUPS HAVE ADVANTAGES AT ANY GIVEN POINT IN THE CYCLE BASED ON VARIOUS ECONOMIC FACTORS.

But to get back to your original point - and the question you never answered - please EXPLAIN why this trend started in 2006, under Bush, at the height of the cycle?

If you want to imply causation (which, to be clear, you shouldn't), you should use as a starting point a period in time when 1)leadership and its polices were leftist and 2)the results were accordingly poor.

Otherwise, your "causation" suggestion is worthless.

You seem out of your league, my friend.

We can trace failures to any number of economic or political trends, including increasing conservatism.

What we cannot do in this specific case is argue that because youths began trending Dem during a Repub administration, that both the BUBBLE under which this trend started (which had been building for several years prior, too) and the consequent BUST which also began under Repub leadership were CAUSED by their Dem proclivities. HTH.

Sorry but the policies that are in place now and moving forward are owned by liberals. The country will continue to get shittier and shittier due to liberals. You folks brag about winning elections and having the popular votes, now you must own the future. American's collapse will be under democratic rule.

Also, it is laughable that the policies are "republican" polcies. If you knew what caused the RE bubble, you'd realize they were by and large bipartisan policy both sides supported.

Also, shitlibb faggots were calling for a real estate bubble before one even existed.

This trend began at the HEIGHT of the economic boom/bubble. You cannot thus argue both ways -- either youths voting Dem causes booms or busts -but not both.

We DO own our economic results, which have been pretty solid, to date. Kindly compare our GDP growth & unemployment rate to any other major economy recovering from the Great Recession. TYIA.

" either youths voting Dem causes booms or busts -but not both. "

WHAT? Youth vote doesn't directly cause shit. I'm saying George W Bush is not directly responsible for the housing bubble. If you believe this you need to kill self asap. I'm also saying Liberal economics is bad for the long term growth and prosperity of this nation, and when the nation collapses and fails to ever return to real "growth" I expect you to brag democrats are responsible since you are so proud of winning elections.

Congrats on your "growth." It only took you SEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT AND FOUR TRILLION NEWLY PRINTED MONEY to do it! Now pay the debt back and see what happens to the economy retard.

Lawyers have a hard time appreciating this because there's essentially zero technical sales skill employed by biglaw firms, let alone shitlaw firms. Or if there is any technical sales skill it's completely walled off from associates in the trenches. But good sales people (and good procurement people) are awash in data and possess one of the 2-3 key skill sets that allow any organization with more than 20 or so people to succeed (the other 2-3 being technical innovation and sometimes management acumen).

>> A major reason young adults are increasingly likely to prefer the Democratic Party is that today's young adults are more racially and ethnically diverse than young adults of the past. U.S. political preferences are sharply divided by race, with nonwhite Americans of all ages overwhelmingly identifying as Democrats or leaning Democratic.

Gallup estimates that 54% of 18- to 29-year-olds are non-Hispanic white and 45% nonwhite, compared with 71% non-Hispanic white and 29% nonwhite in 1995, the first full year Gallup measured Hispanic ethnicity. <<

All true. Point is that this notion that 2030 U.S.A. will be a racially balkanized dystopia is flame. I know Reptiles love to flick their clitdicks and fantasize about a race war that ends with Darnell's BBC penetrating every white anus in America. But practically speaking it's much more likely that there will be a slow lurch toward a more socialdemocratesque government along the lines of the dominant governing ideology in western europe. In 2030 people will look back at the Tea Party and say "remember when those faggots shit their pants because the Black POTUS passed a quasi-universal health care bill? Were they the most pathetic and impotent political movement in American history? Or merely in the top 5?"

This is where people are wrong. It isn't an issue for the gop; it's an issue for the COUNTRY. It's a very bad thing to have a country that's growing and getting more diverse and yet forcing more and more political decisions to happen at the national level. Nobody ends up happy, and people start playing the blame game, especially when it starts to become easy to identify the opposition, whether by region, race, or whatever.

I had an interesting discussion about this with my conlaw professor. During the 70 through the 90s, libs viewed federalism as a hurdle to them achieving their goals via the federal government. Beginning in the early 00s, he has seen a shift from this perception on federalism among liberal students, many of whom embrace the idea of being able to pursue their goals on a much smaller scale in the less intimidating, by far less "gated" stage of state politics. Lib professors, on the other hand, still despise federalism.

libs only want federalism as long as it works for them, such as gay marriage.

That's true to a certain extent for all groups, but it should be readily apparent to anyone who is not a raving ideologue the benefits of making political decisions, especially those relating to social issues, at the most local level possible.

lol as long as you completely ignore who widespread and unremarked upon corruption is at the local level. The media barely has enough attention to keep national pols honest.

Anyone who has dealt extensively with local and state governments can tell you that they are more inefficient and corrupt than their federal counterparts. Local government is a cesspool.

This is very, very dependent on the particular government entity.

How many people vote in elections for local government? If you look strictly at outcomes it's not really representative government. Even in a place that has a purportedly engaged local citizenry the average city council election is decided by less than 10% of the population.

So you Republicans don't think George Wallace or Lee Atwater were effective using identity politics?

The GOP used to use identity politics all the time. Their problem is that they can't rely on appealing to white Christians from the suburbs because that group isn't big enough to help them get a majority.

Libs: Are you really "proud" of this presidency? You have to admit this has been a pretty disastrous presidency in terms of this being the first recession we just never recovered from.

Looking at the decline in GDP growth and unemployment and the performance of every other first-world nation, this was the worst recession since the depression. His administration also has to contend with globalization and continued automation, both of which have made it tough for labor in the first-world. Relative to other first-world nations, the US has performed quite well.

So compared to hard-left countries, a country that was governed moderate-left is doing a little better? Makes sense.

Every recession has a recovery unless you sort of get in the way of it. In a regulatory sense, Obama sort of did that. That's part of the reason why there's been essentially no recovery, although the factors you mentioned do contribute.

This is really no different than the "communism never failed because it was never really tried" argument. The US has acquitted itself quite well considering the depth of its depression in 2008. It has performed well relative to peers (including some who have applied more stricter measures of austerity) who suffered similar gdp declines and has clearly outperformed the recovery from its last depression. But I guess we now have to compare our economic performance to some Conservative Utopia that has never existed?

Austerity was a pretty dumb move everywhere it was tried, but putting money into infrastructure and education (basically the most long-term investments we have) as components of the stimulus was exactly the opposite of promoting short-run demand. Would have been better to just have a $1T tax cut, payroll tax holiday, etc. Would've also been better to deregulate instead of stepping on the regulatory pedal (EPA, NLRB, etc.)

This presidency will ultimately be judged on Obamacare, which will depend on many variables that will occur during the 2016-2030 period. In that way it's a lot like LBJ, in that he is primarily measured by the Great Society. But GWB's presidency was so bad and tarnished the GOP brand post-Reagan so thoroughly that it doesn't matter that Obama was arguably a C- at best. Too many voters are still worried that election another reptile will result in another Z------ presidency.
