joint net worth $319k. Up from $310k on March 16.

375-400k is looking attainable if i stick it out in law until the end of year and cop my annual bonus.

not many firms pay you more for working more. they really should pay give increasing marginal returns for billing, but linear is the best I can hope for.

Most firms that dont have lockstep bonuses will give you like an extra 10-15K for billing 400 extra hours.

from what i've seen counsel and non-equity comp doesn't work that way; lots of discretion (know of counsel pulling down 500k billing far less)

well i am just giving his approx billing rate as a 9th year associate/first year counsel. People who are counsel billing $550 an hour would make $550,000K at 3000 hours. Partners bill between $600 and 900.

And that ignores all origination credit. Also if you actually billed 3000 hours you would probably get an extra bump for beating the next highest non-partner billed by 700 hours.

for a midlaw firm to have partners making $4 million is not bad.

OTOH there are equity partners who probably make less $50-60K more than me. They bill 1400 hours and have few clients of their own. Even if they bill at $650 per hour, they are not raking it in without origination. THey would never make partner nowadays, but things were a lot different 25 years ago.

Yes but net worth is assets - liabilities. You start out 200k in the hole, it does not help.

without loans to drag you down it's easy to accumulate 200k over the first few years, and then you have compoundable interest working in your favor and not against you. and of course very easy to accumulate much more over the next several given biglaw raises

I dont think I am cheaper than you. I spend $5,500 - $6,000 a month on everything - of which $750 are loans. I eat out regularly and do fun stuff like snowboard and go to bars and bowling. I just dont buy anything for myself except electronics and weed.

That is like 2x what I spend, probably a little more, but I don't have rent or mortgage or loans so all I have to do is pay property taxes. I do go out to eat occasionally, drinking was expensive and I drop $300 a month on cigarettes. I did buy a lot of crap, but the stuff I bought, at least the expensive stuff, most of it has gone up in value and that which has not -- did not cost much. For example, my luxury vehicles have not cost me much at all due to luck (getting a big insurance check for a wreck) and buying right and selling well.

My utilities are really high (inc top of the line cable) so all in my house costs about $1000 with taxes and insurance included.

$300 cigarettes

$400 for car related stuff (gas, insurance etc)

Probably $700 or so on food since I pay for a lot of gf's food and drop $150 plus going out once or twice a month.

I have women like $6800 for the first quarter which is right on budget (see the live in 2014 on 2013 bonus thread).

I eat great value brand food. I keep my house cold in winter and only cool one room in summer. I now drive a cheap old truck.

My only luxuries are cigarettes and cable and a dinner out twice a month at the behest of gt. Everything else has been cut to the bone.

What? I am on track to spend $30k this year total. GF does not contribute, but will when she gets out of debt ~August, probably then she dumps me.

GF probably costs more than cable, but less than the house. If I can get her to pay all utilities (as her "rent" contribution) and half of food I could get myself down to $20k a year, maybe less.

Take my $510K and add $150 for nodebt and $120 for the year and a half I was unemployed + making bullshit working for a studio and replace that with biglaw + normal investment returns on all that extra money and you are easily over $800K even if you spend a lot more than me or Drunkard, whith PDZorro does.

30, $585,927.86. About $525k in investments (including $85k in 401(k), 50% of which is Roth 401(k)). Need to buy a home. Live in NYC but am afraid to purchase given that I am a senior associate with an uncertain future.
