That is like kids who choose MIT over Harvard for UG. Some people do it, most don't. And the one's that do believe in STEM in the way that people going to McK at the expense of a legit IBD usually fancy themselves to be future entrepreneurs in stupid shit like tech or consumer products.
But again, the compensation structure alone means you have to be a legit dumb if you are going to lean in over the long term not to take finance. BB VP vs. a MBB project manager is a six figure spread in comp. At the associate level it can be high five figures. |

Sure there are people who choose MBB, but they aren't going to go for PE because they know thats not the trajectory consulting takes. Just like how MIT people are not going for IBD, they're probably looking for tech jobs.

the doctor is the banker. its all transactional. deals happen and PE is all about deals. its a natural fit. u should do some more reading on each job and industry. |

Unless you get staffed on some lucky PE-related MBB projects (Bain tends to have more of these), you have very little hope of getting into PE from MBB. Skills don't translate and PE is all about pedigree.
Top PE shops love pedigreed IBD groups like Goldman TMT, JP Lev Fin, etc. Interviews literally start 3-6 months after the job starts so lol at anybody who thinks the work experience seriously matters. It's all about pedigree and networking, and a guy stuck in flyover land doing 2x2s has neither in the eyes of top PE shops. |

1) PE hires quite a bit from MBB (EDIT: really for ops)
2) Mostly they want Analysts- and very top performers at that
3) They take very top performer associates. Once you hit manager or junior partner you have angled yourself to become an exec somewhere... not PE
4) PE ops people in particular tend to be MBB for obvious reasons (what the fuck to former IB guys know about turning around companies?)
5) If you want to be the dood identifying and buying targets, I agree with the gentleman above me: IB is a much better way to go.
I worked with some Bain Cap people and the entire team from the VP on down were former MBB. Of course, they were ops. |

Top MBB can go to ops side like KKR Capstone pretty well. But that's not the LBO model world of investment PE.
