The first one was the only real CR one in my opinion. The other ones were good for nostalgia and seeing how all those guys turned out, but the first one perfectly encapsulated what it was like being an average dude in high school, the pressures, the drama, the true friendships, etc. that just don't exist anymore. Superbad was the last movie to do the same and that came out when I was graduating so I feel a closer connection to that movie, but the first American Pie was truly 180 in its own right.

Kind of wish Superbad did the same thing that American Pie 2 did, but I can understand why they didn't want to make a second one because the first was a work in progress since Rogen was in middle school and probably didn't want to make an inferior product just for a money grab. That whole movie was a one liner and 180 in every respect.

Definitely and especially with comedies where you already know all the jokes and scenes, as opposed to great drama/suspense movies where you can count on picking up a couple things you didn't notice with every re-watch. Great comedies Superbad, American Pie, Knocked Up, Borat, Dumb & Dumber, etc. are just timeless and so few and far between these days.

I went to college in my hometown so maybe that's why I didn't feel the same way about AP2, but it was a solid flick. I'll just say that when the first one is on TV, I watch it until the end even though it's usually censored. I don't do that with many movies.

cr. kind of sucks they didn't do a good job showing post-college life and instead went to that wedding fluff. the whole franchise could have basically been a documentary of are generation.

Superbad is cool because it literally shows the last bastion of normalcy before smartphones, facebook, shitlibbery, etc took over.

That's actually a really good observation. I think 2007-2008 was really the last somewhat decent time to go to high school and really take in the experience before everything turned to shit with all that shit you mentioned. Is it possible the economic collapse was a pre-cursor to societies' spiraling downfall in general? This thread has really turned out to be much deeper than anyone expected.

that whole movie felt forced. it was also missing all the female characters from the other 2, and they COMPLETELY changed Alyson Hannigan's character from AP2 to AW. and the steve stifler stuff was a bit too much.

This. But as over the top Stifler was in the third one, even compared to the first two, he provided most of the very limited comedic value to the third one, whereas the first two were much more balanced.

Yeh, I have no idea what they were thinking with that movie. They made too many mistakes. I watched American Reunion last year, too and it seemed as forgettable as the 3rd. Even though most of the original characters were in it, it just wasn't very funny.

I'd have to imagine it's either that the missing cast members didn't want to participate, or would have made the budget too high.

Hmm, seems like the budget for each movie went up and each one grossed around $230-250 million in the box office pretty damn consistently. No clue why those cast members wouldn't want to participate, since none of them really did anything substantial with their acting careers after the 2nd one. Tara Reid has become the female poster actor for awful straight-to-DVD movies, notwithstanding her breathtaking performance in Sharknado. It's pretty funny how much she has embraced that title.
