stupid buy.
you paid a fairly high price for a low-growth company run by a fairly greedy management with a recent track record of making very bad capital allocation decisions.
you are also on the wrong side of the next major generational nutritional tide. sugar is going to become more and more appreciated as a problem, and that is going to be a stigma that soft drinks won't shake.
but enjoy that 2.9% dividend yield bro

lol. no it doesn't
coke pays outrageously high amounts of money to buy piss-ant stakes in companies that make the shit that people are buying to replace coke.
but the still bad news is that all of those drinks are still toxic for the same reasons. powerade, energy drinks, etc: they're all a giant industry-fucking class action away from ruining KO shareholders' day.
you're right, they do make "DASANI". since you have invested 50K in the company I suspect you can tell me what % of their net income is comprised of relatively healthy dasani water?

1. NANNY STATE
even if people want coke, it is the biggest corporate target of the biggest industry target for nanny state legislation meant to address the obesity epidemic. do you believe that the trend in american politics is towards MORE or LESS nanny state legislation?
2. STIGMA
its easy to look at the noSODA types as some sort of elevated holier-than-thou minority (which they are). what you need to recognize is that soda consumption is going to become a class marker in the same way cigarettes are. and as that becomes more and more clear, more and more people on the margin are going to switch to that NOCOKE life. people TODAY have no clue how much soda the average fucking 5 year old drank a few decades ago. now the only 5 year olds drinking soda are former crack babies.
3. "OTHER PRODUCTS"
you’re right that most americans are fat disgusting fucks. the point is, if they have a choice between drinking coke products and being fat fucks, or consuming something else that triggers the same dopamine response, but isn’t stigmatized, they’re going to opt for B. that’s why all those rich white girls who don’t drink soda go to jamba juice. jamba juice is a coke replacement without the stigma
the bull case for KO is that they will recognize the new products that will REPLACE coke, and get there fast, and use their powerful marketing/research/distribution muscles to dominate the space. only that has literally never happened. KO’s entire non-coke portfolio is a list of second-string me-too products that KO, despite all of its distributional strength and marketing experience, couldn’t force onto the american public.
the thing is, when you look at powerades pathetic 20% market share, you have to also recognize that this is 20% market share in a world where KO was so powerful it could literally FORCE EVERY GROCERY STORE to PROMINENTLY display the product. they were only able to do this by using the core coca-cola product as either a carrot (discounts) or stick (refusing to supply).
this means a clear trend of nocoke consumption is really a triple-pwn for KO the company. not only does their only truly profitable product disappear, but with it they lose the negotiating leverage that they’ve relied on to make all of the other products seem somewhat successful.
