no billables, you get paid hourly but those almost always get blown away cuz you are maxing out hrs during shooting, meaning 100 hour weeks

i believe it was around 12 dollars an hour, and you got paid 1.5 or 2x for overtime, i never paid attention cuz it was not very meaningful

was a film geek, loved movies so it was a no brainer when an opportunity came up when i was transitioning between jobs

it was a huge production and kinda too big for some n00b to be joining, it was fucking brutal, lots of menial tasks, standing around, fetching shit, driving around random towns. it was exciting at first but i was working around 100 hours a week during shooting so was too tired to enjoy it, of course pay was shit

i decided i liked getting reamed out in an air conditioned office while making 200K+ versus getting buttfucked in random cities while making less than 20K per film

Do you have connections, financing, distribution, or know a production services co.? Then maybe. The business isn't terribly difficult. Getting into it can be.

I know some producer/writer types. they don't have much financing or distribution. the way it currently works for them is they might connect with some other producers (my understanding is there are producers who do business side, creative side, or both) who want a certain story. dudes write a mockup or whatever, then shop it around to studios looking for financing. if the script gets picked up, dudes can produce the film.

My current theory is that if you build it they will come. What stops 99% of would be filmmakers is just not doing filmmaking. You write and spec and pitch and try to get someone else to make ur movie. I'm just gonna take 30k of biglaw savings and frakking do it

$30K won't even get you rights to a script. But you're right, the problem with most ppl is that they never fucking try to do it. I'm at work or I'd go on. Will try to come back to this thread at lunch.

dude colin treverrow made safety not guaranteed for 150k and got off that got hired to do Jurassic World and Star Wars. 1 mil is a medium budget film these days.

anyways im talking shorts, not features, so way less.

Lol, yeah with the Duplass bros. on board. The problem isn't the shooting budget, the problem is attaching people that will get the movie actually distributed and knowing ppl that will set those conversations up. He made it for $150K, sure, but any profit was eaten up by deferments and back end paid to make up for everyone doing it at scale. He wouldn't have gone on to Jurassic World without knowing the right people. If you do, good on to you brother. The likelihood is that you might break even if you go svod with it, but you're not jumping into Star Wars by making an indie.
