In contrast, the words of the Koran are literally considered to be holy. Translations are seen as problematic not because they're less aesthetically pleasing, but becuase translation = interpretation and debasement of the holy text.
I've never read it in arabic, tbf, but in english it seemed pretty SPS.

I can speak from my limited experience with Persian literature because I have read and heard some poems in Farsi that are absolutely beautiful and fucking incredible in the original language that sound like pure shit when translated to English. The New Testament, which is the basis of Christianity, is an entirely different beast than the Old Testament, and even within the New Testament, what Jesus says is paramount. Read what Jesus specifically says. There's an enormous difference in his preachings and his attitude compared to Mohammed. Jesus forgave his enemies. Mohammed didn't. Mohammed called for deaths and which is why apostasy is such a big fucking deal in Islam whereas in Christianity it's barely registered. |
