It's not just that (assuming that's true). He spent a lot of time during his formative years drinking deep from the well of XO scholarship. He was a very late bloomer sexually and he attributes that, perhaps correctly, to American society's collective view of Asian males. Obviously anyone who knows anything about Korean culture knows that it's also a pretty macho culture even taken on its own, so I'm sure that feeds into this too somehow. But the obsessive need to "prove" something to XO, specifically, is definitely a manifestation of the degree to which this place really fucked with his head back in the day, and I don't think there's any doubt that all of this effects his IRL behavior. For example, his obsessive need to maintain a "harem" of bitches at all times and document it all in spreadsheet form. It's just pretty sad. |
