Security also has the meaning of, "fastened, bound." Maybe it originated in how debtors were bound to the bound to creditors by law, or some shit.

That's a good guess. Maybe true. I have a feeling it has to do with how they were originally marketed as "secure" or something in the colloquial sense to attract investors.

Earliest corps were joint stock companies that required a royal charter, like the e india company. Bc debt doesn't run against the king or some bs like that they couldn't issue bonds. But holding their stock gave you a ratable secured interest in the cargo of an expedition. Hence 'securities'
