180. one of the funniest things about his schtick is being such a dedicated proponent of unibody SUVs/crossovers. I get "truck guys" or "jeep(cj tj etc) guys" or somebody really into sports cars or motorcycles but there's something off about a dude going on about range rovers, porsche crossovers and how great his grand cherokee handles on the highway

seriously, you can't get a more mediocre SUV than a JGC and I hang out with the guys who designed it. They admit it themselves that the vehicle has an identity crisis because they can't charge enough to make it compete with the RR but want to retain some of the luxe features

Of course it isn't quite a luxe or fast as a top of the line RR, because those cost nearly double what a top of the line JGC does. But objectively, it definitely isn't mediocre. Few SUVs offer the performance or features it does and if it doesn't quite live up to the top luxury SUVs then that isn't exactly shocking considering the price.

But anyway, you want mediocre look at Mazda CX5/7/whatever, Honda SUVs, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape or Flex, and a million other SUVs that don't even offer decent performance options. Mind you, they don't have solid performance but aren't exactly great offroad either. Jeep is significantly better than all of those.

(Guy comparing apples to oranges)

Your precious JGC is benchmarked and tested against the X5, ML and RR sport. A 4runner or land cruiser would wipe the floor with it off road.

Depends on how the 4Runner is outfit vs how the JGC is outfit. But for how mine is, sure, I have something that is built more like what most RRSs are built for, which is high performance + with decent off road capability. I don't need more off road capability as it is, but I certainly wouldn't compromise the performance. At the same time, I want something that has at least some off road capability. Every car has trade-offs. You just choose the ones that work for your needs.

They don't do visual design, they're chassis engineers who figure out shit like torsional modulus and where and how all the body panels are supposed to attach.

The Grand Wagoneer is going to be dope, and despite everyone wanting to, there will never be a hellcat engine in a jeep (even the SRT8)

"Designers" are flame, they just put a pretty wrapper on all the engineering after its been done. Much like the law, the successful people are 1:100 to the number of abject failures.
