"This case is about Owen Labrie sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl. It's about how he thought about this for months, how he made a plan, and he executed the plan in an isolated, secluded mechanical room in the Lindsay Building on campus," Deputy Merrimack County Attorney Catherine Ruffle said during opening arguments. The victim was identified during opening statements as Francesca Prout. "She's known to her friends and family and she'll be known to you as Chessie," said Ruffle. The prep school counts, among its graduates, numerous prominent business and political leaders, including U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. The trial is expected to shine a spotlight on the culture of the elite academy, founded in 1856. It is clustered on 2,000 wooded acres (810 hectares) in Concord, New Hampshire's state capital. Quoting from a police affidavit, the Concord Monitor newspaper reported that Labrie told officers shortly after his arrest that his alleged encounter with the girl was part of a school tradition known as "senior salute," in which senior boys competed to "score" with female students. "It may be the first time that you've ever heard that phase, the senior salute. It appears to be something unique to St. Paul's school, the senior salute. But there's no question that Chessie knew exactly what Owen was doing by inviting her to get together because it was a source of pride for girls at the school to be asked to participate by a senior in a senior salute," said defense attorney J.W. Carney Jr. A jury of 11 men and three women, with two alternates, was selected on Monday (August 17) for the trial at the Merrimack Superior Court in Concord. The jury is expected on Tuesday (August 18) to visit the campus of St. Paul's and the site of the alleged assault. Labrie has pleaded not guilty to three felony sexual assault charges. Lesser charges include using an "Internet service" - specifically Facebook - to lure the alleged victim. The three sexual assault charges each carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. Labrie had been slated to begin classes at Harvard University last fall, but did not attend, the Concord Monitor said.

To create the book, they are posing the following question: What does St. Paul's School mean to you? Please respond to this question by sending a photo and caption to Lucy Prout at lprout@sps.edu. Their book will be available for sale at Anniversary. This project is based on "My Japan" - a project that evolved in the wake of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami where Lucy was an intern and helped to produce a high quality photo book from the submissions. Susan Rosemary Prusaczyk, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard D. Prusaczyk of South Windsor, Conn., was married yesterday to Alexander Maurice Prout, a son of Tomiyo Prout of New York and the late Frank J. Prout. The Rev. Matthew Roche performed the Roman Catholic ceremony at the Church of the Assumption in Westport, Conn.

Mrs. Prout, 28, was until recently the international public relations manager for Tiffany & Company. She graduated from the College of the Holy Cross. Her father, now retired, was an English teacher at East Hartford (Conn.) High School. Her mother, Susan B. Prusaczyk, is an accountant for the Town of Manchester, Conn.

Mr. Prout, also 28, is an associate in the bond-syndication department at Merrill Lynch & Company, the securities brokerage, in New York. He graduated from Georgetown University. His father was an associate at Frank C. Brown Company, a management consulting concern, and the chairman of Daytop Village, the drug rehabilitation organization, both in New York.
