So maybe I am old - never saw the MTV VMA's before. What the fuck was that?

There were only a couple of actual awards given. Most of the time Miley Cyrus was running around in various levels of crack whore get up, making unfunny snide comments and talking about herself. She basically made the show about her, the host, or so it seemed. Forget the music or awards - OMG selfies!
I saw some stupid sequence with and elderly looking snoop where they basically make weed jokes all day and brag about how cool it is like they are 15 years old. I love weed and I eat/vape that shit all the time, but I don't try to run it in the faces of the entire world like oh so fucking cool and edgy, doing DRUGS on TV.
Then this gross Minaj thing did something disgusting that I wasn't paying attention too.
Then Taylor swift gave Kanye and award for... what? and somehow Kanye spent half an hour talking about of his ass like he is someone special.
What the fuck is wrong with people? The level of narcissism is insane, and I am a fair narcissist. |

To be fair, Kanye is the Bob Dylan of our times, and his speech was... remarkably Bob-like. If it makes you feel any better, it's only a matter of time until Kanye hits the born-again stage!
As a side note, how fucked up is it that THIS--a Miley Cyrus backup band--is what the Flaming Lips have come to be in 2015? |

Most of the performances were shitty. I kinda liked that chick with the hair playing guitar but that's basically it. It's hard for me to comment on the awards because i'm really out of touch with who is making popular music these days. The Kanye thing seemed bizarre but vanguard/career achievement awards are nothing new.
I was just left thinking it all seemed very stupid but im not sure if it was because of some decline in the quality of Mtv/pop music or because i'm older than dirt and the show is not made for me. |
