I don't think a 42 pt difference against a common opponent "means nothing" - although I agree it isn't the be all, end all. But, in any event, what big wins does Oklahoma have? no one has any clue how good anyone in the Big 12 is because they played literally no one outside the big 12 so its hard to give much credit for a win over Baylor. They won in OT against Tennessee, which is pretty good I guess. But that seems roughly in the same category as ND's wins over USC, Pitt, Navy, Temple. I'm open to the idea that a win over Baylor is a step above that, but hard to say its much better. And, of course, there's no doubt that Oklahoma's loss is significantly worse than ND's.

i agree beating Stanford handily will ENSURE a bid. Beating them at all while likely earn ND a bid.
However the real lesson of the rankings this week is:
