Wrote a 20 page single spaced paper in one night. A crazy-daring performance: was tasked w/writing either an analytical paper (easy way out) or a historical narrative, chose to do the narrative but wrote it in NOVEL form. Complete with dramatic flashbacks, internal monologues, etc. (and copious footnotes, to be sure). Got the only A+ the professor has ever given to anyone in his entire career. His LOR was crucial in getting me into the T6 because my transcript was otherwise disastrous.
Of course, disastrous procrastination...well that was the rest of my college years.

Not at all. Johns Hopkins University, and the history program there is prestigious. I was a junior. His LOR (along w/that of another history professor who I similarly impressed) played a significant role in getting me into Chicago and (probably, though it's only a guess) CLS. The guy I interviewed w/at Chicago told me as much.
It's quite possibly my single greatest moment in terms of academic achievement. The paper was damn good, even if it was written at the last minute. Not at all a POC.

I'm in college right now. My final paper is 5 days late and I can find absolutely no motivation to do it. I know it has to get done, I can't focus or get off messageboards. It's pretty pathetic.
=
The assignment is easy (almost HS-like) I have to make arguments on JSM "On Liberty" and Rousseau's "Social Contract" (10-page paper). Usually arguments against books are the easiest to make. If anyone has a view or anything thats good motivation I'd appreciate it.

I got a tentative grade from an English professor on the condition that I add five pages to the final paper that I was working on. Well, I've graduated from law school and still have not yet turned in the paper. The professor is threatening to revoke the grade (thereby leaving me without enough credits to graduate university).
I think he's bluffing.

I waited until 3 hours before the term paper was due to start. But before I started I thought it would be a good idea to find out from the professor himself what he was looking for in the paper. I forgot professor don't like when you wait until there are three hours left to start on their assigned work.
Needless to say I never showed my face again until I had to drop the class.

It's currently ranked #13 on USNWR.
An unhappy place, but quite prestigious. (See my post above.)
I was one of those students that professors allowed to get away with a lot of shit. I think it's because I outwardly project a sense of competence and studiousness that doesn't actually correlate to reality.

i dropped out of college and returned a few years later to finish my degree. the first semester i retruned, i had a 8 am economics class that i literally went to 3 times - the first day, the midterm (got a C or a D, don't remember, and the last class before the final).
the weekend before the final i realized i was going to literally flunk the course if i didnt do anything, and that i probably shouldnt have bothered coming back to college if i was going to flunk. i sat down, opened the book for the first time, and read it cover to cover, taking about 20-25 pages of handwritten notes as i read.
somehow i ended up getting an A. owned.

I did the same thing with my intro micro class.
I hate the professor, and realized that all she was doing was basically reading out of the book.
It was an 8am, and I was pledging at the time. So I just showed up for the midterm and the final. Got an A on both by taking my own notes from the book.

I had a BS assignment in an intro astronomy course where we were supposed to give typed answer some questions from the book; the prof wanted about two full pages for the whole thing. I didnt know about the assignment (was asleep in class and didnt look at the syllabus) until I got to class that day. I wrote out one to two sentence answers to each question on the back of the syllabus.
He gave me a 24 on the assignment.

I once had to write a paper over a book and one of the options was to analyze just a few pages in depth. I hadn't read the book and only had a couple of hours left, so I chose to analyze the first couple of pages. I got an F and the teacher indicated that some of the points I made would make no sense if I had read the entire book.
So I went home and read the book and didn't see any of my points disproved.

I had a writing class at 7:30am every other Monday. A paper (maybe 1,000 words or so) was due each time. For literally every paper, I went to bed around 11 or 12, set my alarm for 3am, and wrote it between 3am and 7:30am. I got the highest grade in my section.

I started writing my 119-page senior thesis 12 days before it was due. For each of those 12 days, I was working between 18 and 22 hours on the paper. This included original research, as well as desperate questions to various internet messageboards known to be frequented by experts in the field.
By day 9, I had a 102-degree fever, and my sight was blurry. When I slept, I had visions. I enlisted 12 roomates and friends to each proofread 10 pages, and to hand their corrected pages to me one at a time, so I could fix things right away.
My roomates' computers were all networked, so I sent print commands to every printer simultaneously, so that I would only have to wait for 25 pages to print, not all 119.
Then I bound it together and borrowed someone's bike, racing to the departmental office.
I turned in my thesis on 5pm exactly, just as the secretary was closing the mailslot.
Afterwards, I took a piss in some nearby bushes, because, in the buildup to turning in my paper, I did not have enough time to take a piss for several consecutive hours.
That night, we had a crab rangoon eating contest. I ate 50, then I barfed like a fountain for about 15 minutes.

A few years ago, while doing research in the library on campus, I had to take a piss. As I entered the john a big beautiful all-american football hero type, about a sophomore, came out of one of the booths. I stood at the urinal looking at him out of the corner of my eye as he washed his hands. He didn't once look at me. He was "straight" and married -- and in any case I was sure I wouldn't have a chance with him. As soon as he left I darted into the booth he'd vacated, hoping there might be a lingering smell of shit and even a seat still warm from his sturdy young ass. I found not only the smell but the shit itself. He'd forgotten to flush. And what a treasure he had left behind. Three or four beautiful specimens floated in the bowl. It apparently had been a fairly dry, constipated shit, for all were fat, stiff, and ruggedly textured. The real prize was a great feast of turd -- a nine inch gastrointestinal triumph as thick as a man's wrist. I knelt before the bowl, inhaling the rich brown fragrance and wondered if I should obey the impulse building up inside me. I'd always been a heavy rimmer and had lapped up more than one little clump of shit, but that had been just an inevitable part of eating ass and not an end in itself. Of course I'd had jerk-off fantasies of devouring great loads of it (what rimmer hasn't), but I had never done it. Now, here I was, confronted with the most beautiful five-pound turd I'd ever feasted my eyes on, a sausage fit to star in any fantasy and one I knew to have been hatched from the asshole of the world's handsomest young stud. Why not? I plucked it from the bowl, holding it with both hands to keep it from breaking. I lifted it to my nose. It smelled like rich, ripe limburger (horrid, but thrilling), yet had the consistency of cheddar. What is cheese anyway but milk turning to shit without the benefit of a digestive tract? I gave it a lick and found that it tasted better then it smelled. I've found since then that shit nearly almost does. I hesitated no longer. I shoved the fucking thing as far into my mouth as I could get it and sucked on it like a big brown cock, beating my meat like a madman. I wanted to completely engulf it and bit off a large chunk, flooding my mouth with the intense, bittersweet flavor. To my delight I found that while the water in the bowl had chilled the outside of the turd, it was still warm inside. As I chewed I discovered that it was filled with hard little bits of something I soon identified as peanuts. He hadn't chewed them carefully and they'd passed through his body virtually unchanged. I ate it greedily, sending lump after peanutty lump sliding scratchily down my throat. My only regret was the donor of this feast wasn't there to wash it down with his piss. I soon reached a terrific climax. I caught my cum in the cupped palm of my hand and drank it down. Believe me, there is no more delightful combination of flavors than the hot sweetness of cum with the rich bitterness of shit. Afterwards I was sorry that I hadn't made it last longer. But then I realized that I still had a lot of fun in store for me. There was still a clutch of virile turds left in the bowl. I tenderly fished them out, rolled them into my hankerchief, and stashed them in my briefcase. In the week to come I found all kinds of ways to eat the shit without bolting it right down. Once eaten it's gone forever unless you want to filch it third hand out of your own asshole. Not an unreasonable recourse in moments of desperation or simple boredom. I stored the turds in the refrigerator when I was not using them but within a week they were all gone. The last one I held in my mouth without chewing, letting it slowly dissolve. I had liquid shit trickling down my throat for nearly four hours. I must have had six orgasms in the process. I often think of that lovely young guy dropping solid gold out of his sweet, pink asshole every day, never knowing what joy it could, and at least once did, bring to a grateful shiteater.

Went to only three of a senior theory class (which most people thought was difficult) because it was too early for me to get up (10:00AM). The prof had a requirement that every 6 misses equaled a lower letter grade, which would have dropped me to about a C automatically. Told prof I was missing classes because I was "researching and visiting law schools." Instead, got drunk and played Resident Evil 4 all semester.
Put off studying for every exam until the night before, which meant I had to read hundreds of pages. Got an A.

I am bad for procrastinating. My most successful effort was this semester though, when I started a 12 page critical analysis of a popular history title two days before it was due and pulled an A+. This was the first A+ that the prof has ever given out at my school (she's a notoriously hard marker).
Other than that, I basically start all of my papers in the week before they are due, put shit off until the last minute, and am literally finishing my footnotes/biblio on the day that it's due. I still usually pull pretty good marks.

I can't remember any assignment that I didn't start the night before. Same goes for preparing for finals.
Two occasions stand out: In a capstone class, there was some sort of semester-long project requiring a journal with references to in-depth newspaper stories. I started it the morning it was due, using WSJ archives. Got an A-, showed the grade to an exceedingly hot chick, who had worked on hers for the entire semester. She got a better grade, but HATED me when I told her I started it that morning.
In a second occasion, I had some sort of project due in some sort of feminist history class. Turned it in a week late, and when I turned it in I said I hadn't made it to class the previous week due to a flat tire. Nevermind the fact that I hadn't made any attempt to contact her. I think she was afraid of being a bitch to one of the only d00ds in the class.

I really haven't gone to any classes (except my language one) since the second week of school. It worked out okay for one class (B average), but for my math class, I got a 46 on the midterm. I skipped the second midterm since I was sick. Sometime since week four or five, I stopped during the problem sets (due every class, and we have class 3 times a week).
I'm withdrawing now so it won't be on my record, but I'm sure I would fail the final as well if I take it, so I would've ended up with a pretty 40-something percent.

graduate dissertation in two days. assumed i wouldn't finish and would have to take an extension, which would revoke any chance of honors, and keep me from graduating for another year. at about 4am i decided, oh wtf, and filled in all the gaps between finished chapters with bullshit connecting paragraphs.
apparently there was a massive debate between the external examiner (it was a european school so there is always an external examiner from another shool) and the head of my program as to whether or not they should pass it (the head of program, perhaps expecticng better, wanted to fail and fore a rewrite and deny honors). The external examiner put her foot down and they passed me. despite the massive weight of the dissertation, all of my course grades were so high that i still pulled honors (they'd never though to put a minimum on dissertation grades at which to deny honors, as it was so heavily weighted it was presumed that a good grade would be needed...).

Dude,
The fwd e-mail would have contained the time stamp for when you originally sent it.
I've done a couple of versions of this before. You can either (1) Send a document to an "incorrect" address when it is actually due, understanding that it will be bounced back. Then, when you actually finish it, you can fwd the bounced back e-mail with the valid time stamp and attach your paper to it.
Or, (2) you can send a document to the correct e-mail address, but take a .exe file and change the name to .doc, making sure the sizes are comparable. The .exe file opens up as gibberish, and the professor assumes there is a technology problem occuring. They ask you to send again, giving you a few days grace period.

It was the night before the final for my 6-credit, full year advanced macro class. All the prior exams had been optional-- of course I opted to skip them. So the final was worth 100%. I had to cover almost a whole year of stuff (which I hadn't yet even purused). It couldn't be done.
The only option remaining was to feign ill. I had done it before, and had little shame in doing it again. Problem was, it was a Sunday exam (my uni is stupid). University health center-- closed. Only option-- university hospital emergency room. So I went.
This was back in the days of the SARS scare in Canada, so I couldn't go in complaining of flu symptoms, or I'd be fucked. So, I went the upset stomach/ vomitting route. Bad move, I would find out later.
I waited for two hours, and was finally called into a room. I had to change into one of those assless gowns and wait another hour to be seen by an intern. He seemed pretty chill as I explained my symptoms, and I thought everything was going down fine until he whipped out the rubber glove. Yep, seconds later I was laying on my side, de-flowered.
As if that wasn't enough, I had to wait another 30 minutes for some other dude. He eventually came in, and said "Mr. X, time for your x-rays." "Holy shit," I thought, "what did I get myself into?" After I finally convinced him that I would not be subjected to any x-rays, a lady came in armed with a syringe. "I just need a little blood," she said perkily. "No fucking way," I replied as perkily.
I convinced the blood lady to let me see an actual doctor, which I did after another 45 minutes of waiting. She asked why I was being uncooperative, and I just told her I was feeling much better and that all the tests weren't necessary. "Still," she replied, "I'd like to keep you overnight just to be safe."
I pretty much lost it at that point. I bargained her down to staying for an hour and eating some nasty hospital food to see if I could keep anything down. I waited, ate the food, and waited again. An hour later nobody had come, so I went out into the hall in my little dress and tracked down the doc. "I have to go home now."
"I really don't recommend you to do that," she said.
"You don't understand, I have to go home NOW."
"Well, I can't keep you here, so do it if you like."
"Thank you. By the way, I missed an exam today. Can I have a note?"
As she finally caught on, her face contorted into a look of hatred and disgust as she pulled out her little pad and dashed off my note. I took it and left without a word.

The teacher wasn't very good and I stopped going to class and doing the reading. Then I polished off a 5-pager in 2 hours 21 minutes, no editing. 84%.
Final was a 7-pager in 2h33 and got an 86%.

True story. Missed 2/3 of my classes for chem. Literally took the shrink wrap off the book 2 days before the final. Pulled 2 consecutive all-nighters and somehow managed to cover 22/24 chapters of the book (roughly 800 pages).
Unfortunately, during the review session (which I missed), the professor had explained that half the final was based on the last 2 chapters.
Final grade: B (A+ on the first half of the exam, F on the last half, ended up curved to a B)

apparently this not where we berate ourselves for procrasting but brag about how we overcame it...
OK. I only got into 2 AP's junior year (had to wheedle my way into the second one). I figured this wasn't enough to ensure the type of school I was looking for (USNEWS 4-15, or something like that).
I approached the econ teacher asking him if I could take the class with the seniors (macro and micro). It didn't fit into my schedule but he said he would tutor me once a week if I needed. I showed up the first week, but got lazy and quit... I lied to my parents the whole time saying I was still studying.
During spring break the shit was starting to hit the fan and figured I could probably salvage 3's. I studied econ three hours a day for five days. Didn't touch the book again until the night before the exams (studied maybe another couple hours)
20 hours studying total and I got a 5 on both APs... I think that was probably my crowning procrastination acheivement.

the guy was like 80 years old and senile. i never turned in the revised paper and to this day i have a nice, pretty A in that class and magna cum laude from undergrad.
so, in a way, this is the ultimate form of eternal-procrastination.

Is who the same author? Read Harvard's policy for withdrawing from courses.
"Withdrawing from Courses without Credit
A student may petition to withdraw from a course. Such a petition must be submitted by
the seventh Monday of a term. When a petition to withdraw from a course has been approved,
the students record will carry the notation WD for the course. The transcript states: WD indicates
permission to withdraw from the course without completing requirements and credit for
Academic Information 50
the course. All students pay a $10 fee for withdrawal petitions filed by the seventh Monday
of the term.
A student who does not receive permission to drop or withdraw from a course by the fifth or
seventh Monday, respectively, and who is absent from a regularly scheduled final examination,
during the Final Examination Period, will receive a grade of ABS (Absent) in the course. Such
an unexcused ABS is equivalent in all respects to a failing grade."

Had a buddy in college who was always behind, asking for extensions, failing classes. He finally finished in a little over 5 years. One of his favorite moves was as follows.
If he'd already asked for an extension or was otherwise late with a paper, he'd fill up a word document with those little rectangles and other various gibberish. He'd submit his "paper" by email. By the time the prof got back to him with something like "Oops! My computer didn't format it right! Could you try sending it again?" and a reasonable time to "reformat," he could write the paper for real.

My sophmore year I became an overachiever and took nine classes: four physics, two upper-division history, Japanese, chemistry (organic), and math (differential topology). At the same time, I was volunteering about 4 hours a day, 6 hours on weekends, at a local charity. For the first couple of months, I was doing OK, although I had to cut down significantly on social time. However, midterms hit. I made the semester into a complete shitstorm by delaying in some classes while studying frantically for my exams.
Worst fucking decision I ever made.
I never caught up after that--I was always behind and finals became a complete disaster. Because I was on a special final exam schedule (for credit overload students, they have to rearrange finals), I didn't realize that my o-chem exam was actually a day earlier. I was working on a 45-page final semester paper and only realized two hours into the three hour exam my mistake. I threw on a shirt and some pants, gulped down a coffee, and ran to my final. The professor was a complete hardass and insisted that I had two options: sit for that session or skip the conflicting exam the next day. I couldn't afford to lose the final in my math class, so I took the final with about forty-five minutes left. I made a valiant effort, completing about two-thirds of the exam, but knew I had flunked--stiff curve in that class. Pissed as hell, I ran back to my dorm to finish my paper, only to find that I had forgotten to lock the door and some fucking jerk had swiped my laptop.
I couldn't bear to face my professor; earlier in the semester, I had faked an illness to delay one assignment, but was caught by a snitch. The professor completely didn't believe me when I said my laptop was stolen. I realize now that was my fault, but at the time, sleep-deprived and stressed by the o-chem exam, this was the last straw. I went back to my dorm and started crying.
After that, I fucking lost it. I don't quite remember what happened next. Apparently I went knocking on a lot of doors, shouting at people, throwing books at passers-by, and getting into a fight with a security guard. I went back to my dorm room where I shouted at my roommates to leave. Then I got drunk as hell and fell asleep.
When I woke up, I sobbed some more, knowing that this whole episode had cost me valuable time studying for the math exam. It was all so hopeless. I attempted suicide, tying a bedsheet to a table leg, knotting the other end around my neck, and jumping out of our third-story window. Thankfully, the material ripped. My worst injury was a broken leg.
Following my suicide attempt, I was hospitalized at a psychiatric ward. I had a complete breakdown and ended up withdrawing from my school as a result. I spent two months in treatment afterwards, then returned to community college. I subsequently transferred to my local state university and just graduated from there this year.

OMG I'm in the exact same situation except mine is two days late. I haven't even contacted my professor. I think I'm screwed and won't be able to go to law school. :-(

A dude in my LS class started a 60 page paper (including the research) 48 hours before it was due and a week before he was supposed to graduate.
That's the worst I've ever seen. My own personal worst involved a year-long incomplete.

my worst ever was from law school.
i was doing a directed research thesis in one class that had to be between 15 and 20 thousand words not including footnotes. i was also taking a seminar that required one final paper of 8-10 thousand words.
i did a shitload of research for the thesis, but procrastinated writing it past several due dates, until i exhausted the patience of my advisor. he finally got pissed off and said i had to turn it in in two days. i wrote the entire paper in two and a half days- 6 hours of sleep between day one and two. i got an a, and a publication option :P
but it gets better. i turned in the thesis at 7pm. my other assignment was due the next day at 5pm. that paper i hadn't ever researched, let alone started writing. i finished the entire thing in one night- running on three nights with almost no sleep. got a b+ on the paper (though the bitch of a teacher reduced my final grade to a b because i never once came to class (even though she never said it was a requirement to do so.))
anyway, i know it sounds awful and gloaty, but i basically did nanowrimo in three days and without sleep. i kicked ass.

I was fulltime in graduate school (which I entered woefully unprepared for) while working fulltime and looking for a summer job.
I'm a procrastinator and this did not go well. It might have been okay if I were prepared for grad school but I really, really wasn't and had taken time off between college and grad school to do unrelated stuff and was competing against extremely well-prepared people who already had a freaking masters' degree in the field or a related one or had LOTS of legitimate research experience in the field.

I won a prestigious grant for research on an esoteric topic. I managed to convince my grad. department to nominate me despite being totally underqualified (among other things, I had no formal training in the field.) This research required me to work hands-on with leading experts in a foreign country, whose difficult language I had learned informally by self-study over the previous couple of years. (This grant normally went to ABDs, and I hadn't even finished an MA yet.)
I arrived in-country, spent a week brushing up my language skills, and met with one expert, who was very helpful - he gave me two long interviews and allowed me to photograph many of his research materials. He also gave me copies of monographs and holographs that were unobtainable in North America. Then, I hit a wall. The next person I needed to speak with, who had been so friendly and accomodating when I was on the other side of the ocean, totally FROZE MY ASS OUT, refused to meet with me, refused to allow a subordinate to meet with me, and shut off access to a major major major collection, the biggest & best by far. I was faced with the prospect of returning to school with my dick in my hand, having wasted huge amounts of time and money.
This counts as procrastination because I hadn't cultivated a realationship with her at all - I waited three months to follow up after our first two conversations. It was pure laziness. She actually turned out to be really nice and helpful later on, after it was all over.
So a few hours later, I'm wandering around in the rain, downtown in a crumbling ex-Communist city, without much money or time left, trying to figure out what to do. I call up a friend (visiting student at my school, someone I had actually kept in touch with socially,) and said, "Listen, I'm fucked here. I got nothing." He said, "Is there anyone else you can talk to?" I name three of the most prominent researchers in the country, eminent & elderly profs. He says "Hang on..." calls me back 10 minutes later... says "My mom's boyfriend(!!!) is drinking buddies with Professor X. They get together a couple of times a week. Want to have dinner with us tonight?"
I come back home looking like a miracle worker, write several articles, models & bottles, etc.

My boyfriend at the time was an engineer and was able to get away with doing practice probs the night before all of his exams and still do well since they were open book, computation based. However, he took one engineering class that actually required memorization and reading (which he did none of) and he got a D. He retook the class the following year but skipped 90% of the classes. He was cramming the night before for 2 exams he had the next day when he checked his email and found out he had a third exam --- one in the class he had been skipping all semester. Had he known, he could have gotten one rescheduled (it's university policy to let you reschedule an exam if you have 3 the same day) but it was now about midnight the night before. They were allowed to drop one test in that class, so he decided to just skip the exam altogether. He ended up with a C in the class.... but still graduated with a 3.5 GPA and a great job.
