Comes with 1400 rounds for $750. Seems like the ammo is worth at least half that so this is a no brainer, right?

Despite the opining of brokeasses, the SKS was a disposable rifle designed for even more disposable peasants. Accuracy isn't great. The quality isn't great either, although it is generally reliable. A decade ago you could pick them up for 100 bucks, and they were definitely worth the money at that price point. They are more expensive now because stockpiles are drying up and due to the lasting effect of sanctions against Norinco and Russia, the only producers of new versions.

Whether this is a good deal depends on (a) condition; (b) whether the barrel is chrome lined; (c) whether the ammo is steel case; and (d) whether the ammo is corrosive.

The condition appears to be excellent, the bore unlined, and the ammo both steel and corrosive.

Edit: the ammo is probably non-corrosive.

So the ammo is probably worth around 350-400, depending on condition (assuming non-corrosive). Thus, the price of the rifle is 350-400. Not a bad deal in terms of market value, assuming the barrel isn't fucked up (more likely to be fucked up if not chrome lined and lots of rounds through it, particularly corrosive rounds). The real question is would this be a good fit for you. It looks like that rifle has been modified to accept detachable mags. More often than not, this modification causes jamming issues. You might be happier with an AK, which is basically a better version of that configuration for just a little more. An AR is better quality and more accurate than both, but ammo is more expensive and it requires more maintenance.

I agree. Also, without a chrome lined barrel, I wouldn't even consider buying something like this sight unseen. In light of the extensive modifications (which hurt both value and function), odds are high the prior owner was chump who did not know what he was doing and beat the insides to shit. Either way, an AK with a chrome lined barrel (or better yet, an AR) is a better bet. You'll probably end up buying at least one of these later after realizing what you have merely looks cool.
