I'm a picky eater and still love bulgogi, galbi and bibimbop. Not sure how anyone can dislike those. The kimchi's are disgusting though. Some of the crap they put out on the table have decent flavor/texture.

Not sure how you can dislike bulgogi/galbi though.

Maybe I'm spelling them wrong, but they're how I pronounce the cross cut ribs that they give you along with scissors. The bibimbop is like an egg pancake that's pretty damn delicious.

ddukbokki is pretty 180 if you can take the heat and get extra ramyun

also casual korean pub-style food can be great with some pitchers of beer and pineapple infused soju or whatever I've had - esp wings

Also, increasingly important for the enlightened minds of xo: Virtually impossible to get anything vegetarian unless you're at a place that's not authentic or special order bibimbap without meat and nasty raw egg (and cross your fingers that they manage not to fuck this up), and then why bother at that point?

Kimchi and the similar fermented dishes are not veg >99% of the time, unless you're expressly told otherwise.

Korean food in the US is retarded.

The vast majority of "Korean restaurants" in the US (even in places like LA/NYC) are owned and operated by people who were never trained as cooks. The vast majority of Korean immigrants to the US are debtors, criminals or some other degenerate who fled their homeland to escape their problems. Think about it - why would a talented, successful person of any nationality EVER immigrate to another country, effectively abandoning their entire family and social network? These unskilled laborers obviously can do nothing other than use the money they stole in Korea to open up things like grocery stores or "restaurants."

The really criminal thing is, these Korean-Americans are a literal paradox. They obviously hate Korea because they fled the country due to problems they caused and love to talk about how amazing the US is. Many of them changed their names and can't go back to Korea without being arrested.

At the same time, their sole and only value-add is that they happen to be Korean. So these literal self-hating gooks play a double role in acting as an ambassador of sorts of Korean culture. "Koreans are like [*]," or "Koreans think like [*]" or "It's a Korean thing" oh and "This is Korean food." And don't even get me started on how they harp about "K-pop". They pick and choose what they like about Korean culture and act as arbiters of what it means to be "Korean", when in actuality being a member of a nation means embracing all aspects of that culture, both good and bad. They hate Korea but they love talking about how they are Korean, even though besides the color of their skin and heavy accent they are about as "Korean" as Donald Trump. And since most of them came over in the 70s-90s, they have these retarded ultra-conservative views which they purport to be "The Korean Way" of thinking, when in reality they would go to jail in current Korea for exercising any of those crazy viewpoints.

Compare to Japanese restaurants. The vast majority of Japanese sushi chefs in the US actually were sushi chefs in Japan. Same goes for many Chinese restaurants.

You go to a Korean restaurant and oftentimes you'll see that the owner also owns a dry-cleaner or nail shop on the side.

Mostly good, but LA is a mix. Since the late 90's there have been yuuge expansions of Korean chains and famous restaurants in Korea that open up an LA branch - a lot of the famous "brands" from KOrea now have 1 branch open in K-town, and some of these deifnitely are better than the Park Chung Hee worshipping fascist Koreans who put out some disgusting fake Korean food in other cities

Yeah Im more East Coast so not up to date with LA food scene. What bothered me was how Korean-Americans love ripping each other off, peddling utter shit like soju for $15 (its $2 in Korea) a bottle or mixing liquor with water and pretending its legit.

Take the uneducated scum of a country, place them in ghettos and they will prey for on each other just to get ahead.

A lot of the retarded soju prices are that they are branded as liquors by diff states n so the owners have to pay a fuckton of taxes for it over a product thats like 2 bucks for a 6 pack in korea.

In LA the korean lobbying got it to be licensed as wine n beer so its cheaper.

The worst korean places are in 2nd tier cities n suburbs. In New Haven there was a korean place that i never went to. 15 bucks for kimchi stew is highway robbery

The equivalent of Korean food in America to my example is:

A hamburger at this "All-Prole Burger Joint" would cost $15.99, fries would be an extra $4.99 (ketchup included), and it would taste worse than McDonalds.

If you want the "ribs", oh you number 1 best VIP customer, pay $49.99.

Japanese - different because they tend to be more affluent, educated and culturally traditional. The local district offices still maintain records of your bloodline, so just by knowing somebody's last name, you can tell whether they are of prole stock or noble stock, and people act accordingly. This combination of more wealth and surviving traditional norms make it very unlikely for poor Japanese to run off to the US to start Japanese restaurants (hence, the relative lack of Japanese-Americans). The ones that do end up going to the US and starting restaurants tend to be highly skilled chefs and thus are able to charge a premium for their skills. Try eating sushi in NYC (not a wannabe joint owned by Koreans or Chinese) and see how expensive it is.

Chinese - due to the popularity of Chinese cuisine, it is profitable for the thousands of "decent" native Chinese cooks to immigrate to the US to open a Chinese restaurant.

Korean - Unlike the Japanese, all family records were burned or stolen during the Japanese occupation. Thus, Koreans have nothing of traditional heritage tying them to the country. In fact, the Koreans that fled Korea HATE Korea for this very reason...in "traditional" Korea pre-Japanese colonization, something like 98% of Koreans had NO LAST NAME, and were of either slave classes (yes, literal slaves) or servant classes. So when the Japanese destroyed Korean records, the 98% proles went buckwild, in some cases murdering their owners and stealing their property/identity, and you had a massive proliferation of agents willing to sell you forged documents. Of course if you get to choose your name and family tree, these prole 98% gravitated towards the most prestigious lines (Kim, Lee, Park, etc.), which is why so many Koreans have the same fuking last name.

They want nothing to do with old Korea. What this means is, in "new" Korea, with brand new identities, these proto-prole Koreans suddenly had a chance to reinvent themselves. Any Korean you ask will say they are descended from noble stock, and so they demand higher quality of life. They are sick of being poor and will do anything to be better than other poor kOreans. But since they are still prole despite their claims of nobility, they can't maek it in Korea, so they steal money and run off the the USA to open a Korean BBQ joint.

that said, what's nice about america, its saving grace, is that for all its flaws, it's a place where people -- and millions of them! -- can make a clean start of life. also australia is a nice country now and the white population is literally 100% descended from trash convicts.

anyway; chinese, thai, vietnamese, mexican, whatever--no ethnic food is known by its chefs in this country with the SOLE exception of french. not italian, not fucking ethiopian, not indian, not any asian. ethnic restaurants are run by random immigrants and not chefs as he points out but fake korean restaurants arent even that numerous compared to fake chinese/japanese/thai

chinese (mandarin) isn't the language where r's and l's (and n's) are the same

syngman rhee = syngman lee

nodong (labor/the N Korea Party and missile name) = rodong

in contrast, "re" "le" "ne" are quite distinct in chinese.

based on this fact, it's an utter act of heroicism for that korean grad student to manage to tell the SJW protesters "this is LIBRARY"

there is no 'r' sound in mandarin at the beginning of a word/syllable, thus chinks have a hard time mechanically making the 'r' sound. the closest thing in chinese is the 'l' sound. if you know the mandarin phonetic alphabet, you will find no 'r' equivalent.

this is why you dont see any chinese words romanticized starting with 'r'. and if you do, its not an 'r' sound in mandarin, but more of a cross between a 'z' and 'th' sound.

Going to McDonalds for dinner tonight.

Instead of berating him, why don't you offer an XO meetup and show him some cool things. Just an idea.
