Each time a couple of archers has been enough to defend and win peace. The second time I made that Russkie fuck Peter pay and marched to St Petersburg and took it for myself.
Barbarians are relentless and spawn constantly. It is annoying as fuck having trade routes constantly plundered by faggot barb scouts. |

AI is aggro early game because there are no warmonger penalties for the ancient era. Change your play style to have an adequate force of units to dissuade war and defend against barbs. Finally don't be afraid to fuck with your neighbors in the ancient era because the penalties for warmongering don't exist likr I just said. If they March a settler by my shit I steal it immediately. |

On the plus side building an encampment district also lets you bombard. |
