Sales skills involves being able to handle rejection, staying motivated enough to cold call, handling objections on the spot, being able to think on your feet.
Most lawyers don't "think on their feet" since a great many don't do trials |

If you can internalize the script, internalize how to handle objection, and maintain a confident tone at all times, then that's sales skills.
If you can keep pressing for a sale, despite many "NOs", that's sales skills.
Not everyone can do it. That's why many prefer to shuffle paper, like you. ;) |

He used to make sure to sit at the end of tables at opposing counsels' offices just to piss them off.
On one occasion, after one shrill female lawyer kept objecting, he said to her increased irritation, "Let the record show opposing counsel is throwing a hissy fit."
On another occasion, after a lost arbitration, he kicked a trash can on his way out, leaving a huge dent, and somehow the tale got back to his old roommate half the country away years later.
Another one: Progressive women were taking over his office, and he belittled them on trying to be like men while having to carry huge purses with a million things in them. Women in his office started trying to go purseless after that to show they could operate on the same level. |
