What's been your experience, bros? Let's assume for corporate, lateral-market purposes. What's more important for mid-term/long-term career - law school or grades?

I'm assuming at a certain point, neither starts to matter as experience takes over?

Dogshit grades at T14, actually. In all seriousness, I ask because as a 2L with a summer offer, the answer to my question may have a direct correlation to my effort level for the next 1 1/2 years.

you'll still be competing with T6 and HYS grads so i'd try to graduate with honors and do moot court, law review, etc.

Grades determine the first opportunities you will get, i.e. where you will start your career; lawyers rarely move up the ladder after that, they typically stay at jobs of the same status or move to a quality of life job with less prestige. With respect to your first job, the prestige of your law school will probably cause employers to look deeper into the class. No one asked about my grades anymore 5 years out of LS. That's not to say that some overly formalistic law firms won't ever ask even if you are 10 years out - but I doubt they'll care about that C- you received in tax law during 3L.

Thank you. That's somewhat good to hear. You seem like a good dude. Let me ask you this: I really feel like I 'chose' the wrong firm.

Basically, I picked a satellite office of a national firm in secondary market over the main office/top dawg of a very competitive market (think LA/SF) firm. I made my choice based on family ties to the smaller market but really feel like opportunities would've been better at the HQ/larger market. How flexible is moving geographies down the road? Depends on the firm?
