Here are some of the types of sites I have stumbled across (most unintentionally):

• Animal abuse

• A forum comparable to 4chan dedicated to dead women and children

• Assassination markets

• Drug markets

• Websites explaining in ridiculously thorough detail how to build a nuclear weapon

• Cannibal fetish forums

• Forums for people with other bizarre fetishes like cutting off their limbs for sexual gratification

• Horrible sites by "Underground Experts United", such as "acid human terrorism" which tells you in detail how to kill everyone around you with acid.

• Radio stations

• Forums for sexual predators where they share stories and methods of abducting/ murdering children.

• There was once a site called "The Human Experiment" which literally consisted of reports by fucked up doctors who performed horrific experiments on homeless people. I'll admit that I spent quite a while looking for this particular site, mainly because I had trouble believing it, and never found it. It supposedly shut down in 2011 and no other sites have popped up since by these people.

But there are a lot of innocent sites as well. One of my favorites categories of .onion sites were based around solving puzzles. They were generally easy to identify because of their lack of information or images. This is exciting because you never know what you're going to get- (these sites never ended up containing anything questionable. They're usually just time killers that ended up displaying interesting facts or something equally as trivial).

Similar to the point I will make later, there was another horrific video made by a "company" called NLF (No Limits Fun) that is possibly one of the most disgusting videos to have ever been produced. It's my understanding that unlike Peter Scully, these people have not yet been caught.

If you just want to explore the deep web, be smart. I will copy and past my answer from the question "what's the worst thing you've seen on the deep web?", which will be a perfect example of what not to do unless you want to risk your life.

But no, not generally. Even visiting some of the more questionable sites isn't illegal, because it's realistically slightly impossible to avoid if you're going to spend time on there (as I will explain later). But be sure that if you're trying to hire a hitman or spending any amount of time on child abuse sites, that someone will eventually catch you (either the government or Anonymous. And frankly, you would deserve it). Unfortunately, you're almost guaranteed to come across crap that you don't want to see. You're not going to get into trouble just by clicking a link unknowingly and seeing what's on it, closing it and moving on. This happens. And you mostly don't ever actually see anything. If you come across as a repulsive site, it usually tells you before entering with a message along the lines of: "Unless you know what's coming, you're probably in the wrong place. Turn back now." There's no reason for you to enter those sites. Trust me.

Anyway, here's my answer to that question, outlining the worst thing I've seen on the deep web:

"9 months ago I honestly wouldn't have touched this question with a ten foot poll. I was honest to god so horrified that I slept even less than I normally do and I eventually committed myself to the local hospital for a few days in order to feel safe. Most of this was paranoia, but considering I did not actually tell anybody and I of course did not act the hero and make a stupid decision involving Law Enforcement, I see no reason not to share this now. I'm obviously fine and I'm not going to give you any information that isn't publicly available anyways.

Disclaimer: I am not a melodramatic individual. If I tell you to be smart and advise against doing something, I absolutely mean it with every inch of my soul. Don't let curiosity suck you into this one.

I spent quite a bit of time on the deep web over the years. I would usually just browse Mufon/ UFO sites and try to read up on whistle-blower accounts. I met a few people who helped me immensely with my programming abilities, and there are some really interesting/ good time-killing sites in general. (Sites where people confess secrets, Put A Donk On It is hilarious)... It isn't all stolen credit information, child porn and assasination markets.

That all being said, if you spend enough time on the deep web, regardless of how safe you try to be, you end up seeing some really gruesome crap. Most of the sites are listed in various directories without any names, so it's common to have to click on various questionable-if-not-completely-warped links in order to find what you're looking for. For this reason I would generally only look on the deep web for a day or two at a time then forget about it for months.

But I was also slightly mentally deranged (curious about murder/ other bad stuff) and the supposed "myth" of the darkest reaches of the internet had intrigued me.

Being stupid and curious, I invested in a Non-American SSH Tunnel that I trusted and started digging even deeper.

I had read stories on the surface web relating to these things, and I do not care what absolutely anybody has to say about it. I know that these sites are not a joke and for somebody to minimize the very real existence of these sites and their victims is not only abhorrently disrespectful but flat out ignorant.

The myth goes that there are sites, (not giving you their general name. And I don't advise searching the following into "Google"), where one can pay bitcoin and orchestrate a live murder from the comfort of their own home.

People are kidnapped off the street (or bought) and masked individuals will do whatever you want them to for the price of that person's life. You can pay to watch them get raped, tortured, anything.

I am somewhat relieved to say that you do not find this merely (yeah, *merely*) by getting a deep web browser and looking. There is another, more hidden and constantly changing gateway that needs to be found. In order to access this part of the deep web, you need to pay bitcoin. Once you have come across this hidden gateway and you're in, you can browse around just like any other search engine. Except this part of the deep web is far sicker than the rest of it.

And that says a lot, considering the deep web in general is home to a myriad of child pornography/ animal abuse sites. So this gateway leads to quite literally hell on earth.

Again, do not go searching for these things. I briefly entered the gateway for all of 5 minutes and it was the most putrid, horrifying experience of my life.

Also, if you're skeptical, all I have to say is these things aren't exactly unreported. A disgusting man by the name of Peter Scully made a video by the name of Daisy's Destruction which surpasses anything I've ever seen. (No, I have not seen this video and I don't know what kind of twisted POS you would need to be in order to even look for it, but if you feel like getting flagged by a dozen different government agencies, have at 'er), but that involved a child. Just imagine what people are willing to pay for watching a fellow adult suffer.

I would imagine these sites are so well covered up because people simply don't talk about them, and naive idiots living in their little comfort bubbles would rather write them off as myths than believe the atrocities committed in our world.

But I assure you, they're real.

No, I have not been on the deep web since.

Every time I talk about this, people message me wanting to know more. I'll send you links to various other weird/ informative deep web sites, sure. But do not question me about this or I'll likely report you. I'm sharing this experience because I was asked to answer, not because I want to enable other people to either indulge in their sick fantasies and I certainly don't want to help someone get as messed up as I was for a while.

I would never argue that the deep web only consists of criminal activity. And there are a lot of reasons why someone would use it.

But yes, it can potentially be quite dangerous. Just make sure you know what you're doing and you'll be fine.

Additionally, I just saw (assuming it was your) comment on the question asking how to access it. Download Tor, download either a VPN or an SSH Tunnel, (which ones all depend on what you're doing. If you're just looking around, you can get a free trial with a VPN called CyberGhost which will suit you just fine). Actually, I'm not going to tell you how to be even more anonymous because I don't want to enable sick behavior.

When I used to use the deep web, I would change my IP address before and after each session. (I would link you a how-to, but I'm not sure what kind of system you're using. Just google it). I also would make sure that nothing was ever logged in- (considering it had just had a factory restore done, nothing would be anyways). Never use the surface web or have anything else open while using Tor. Start with the Hidden Wiki- again, just google that and copy and paste the .onion link into Tor.
