I have a cheap, big crock pot that works fine. If all you plan on doing is slow cooking you don't need anything fancy

what kind of stuff do you cook in there?

are these things a good option for someone being gone all day long? i don't want to poison myself or have overcooked slop.

depends on what you're cooking, but you can definitely leave stuff in there all day

I mainly use it for chili. Big beef cubes take a while to cook and can't be rushed. I've also made beef and deer stew in it. Don't use it that much because I generally prefer to take time to cook conventionally but it's 180 for what it does

And yeah it works fine. I think things always end up slightly better when you periodically stir, but on low 8-10 hours is about right for a big, thick stew. I wouldn't go much longer than that though, or leave anything less than a full pot on all day.

Couple of cheap ones, don't remember where I got them. Not sure if there is any real uptick in quality for more money. It's such a basic concept that I don't know what could be improved.

They are 180. Imagine chucking a pork shoulder in there at noon and then you come home to a house saturated with pulled pork and you just pull that shit apart and go to town. Or just for like chile and other easy game day food. The internet has thousands of easy 180 recipes. It's functionally limitless.

nice. i like the sounds of that. i'd like to be able to introduce some variety into food and also focus on it not being garbage nutrition wise.
