(((Man))) with bagels and Kedem grape juice cutting the supermarket express line

Date: April 10th, 2017 5:06 PM Author: Aromatic business firm For whatever reason the supermarket was insanely crowded last night around 6 pm. Only four lanes were open, two regular lanes and two express lanes. Each line was at least 10 customers deep - backing into the aisles.
I had been standing in one of the express lanes with about 10 items - stuff for dinner and three cartons of ice cream. I was in a rush to get home and get my ice cream in the freezer.
As I am about to get to the front, this 50 year old man wearing a Kippah and holding a package of bagels and a bottle of kedem grape juice (honest to god) asks if he can cut the line in front of me because he has only 2 items. I ask him why he wants to cut. He says he only has 2 items and will be quick. I remind him this is the express lane and everyone only has a few items and will be quick. He looks at me annoyed and then proceeds to ask each customer behind me the same thing. An asian woman behind me says no, so does a gay white guy. Finally a white woman three down the line says yes, to the annoyance of everyone else in line.
While he is waiting he starts stomping in place impatiently and breathing loudly.
wtf is wrong with people.
If I were trying to be an asshole I would have made up something about him pulling out coupons, but that did not happen. |

this case though feels "passover-y". but in general, orthodox jews have a culture that--like most cultures--is best done in a homogeneous environment. that's how pretty any culture works though. they're annoying when they wanna skip line? yeah, of course, kick rocks and wait. but better than one of my own who doesn't ask, just goes to the front and then acts like she wants to fight and spit in your face because you dared call her on it (ie---see UBER DRIVER incident). |
