It's a learnable skill.
Just commit to doing nothing. Let addiction urges (phone, food, fucks) wash over and pass. Same with thought constructs - they're just duckblinds for addiction sustaining habits.
Stuck in traffic between two errands? That's your opportunity for a moment of zen.
Most people, I daresay, don't know how to just enjoy empty space. And life is mostly empty space - not triumph, not even struggle.

Trump enjoys every moment of his life. Believe me.
If you lose sight of goals because you enjoy your life too much, then you are better off not spending the effort to achieve those goals. They're probably someone else's goals that you've mistaken for yours.
In any event, goals are only useful as metrics. The process of becoming is what is important - and as the moment to moment experience of becoming is never painful in and of itself (though it may pain), it is hard to see how enjoying your undirected moments more would work against goal attainments. Enjoying life enables you to more easily get lost in a process that will produce goals as a byproduct.
Further, an attitude that things are good in the beginning, good in the middle, will be even better at the end prepares you to go from attainment to attainment happily. People in the max suffering camp tend to burn out - or procrastinate without quite knowing why. The self-compassion literature bears this out.
And I'm not endorsing fatalism; rather, it takes a voluntary act (many of them) to continuously appreciate the intermezzo moments. In fact, I'd think the attitude I'm endorsing is more Frankl-ish.
