Practicing medicine means you deal with shitty patients, shitty hours, shitty insurance companies, shitty allied professionals, and all around shittiness. You need intrinsic motivation to keep you going.
Of course, you shouldn't take an internet rando's words for it, so I suggest you read some books like The House of God (outdated but still good), or The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly. The second book was written by a guy who was doing Internal Medicine residency at Columbia when he stuck himself with a needle containing his HIV+ patient's blood. Good times! |

Paradise General is another good medicine book. Its about an FP doc who joins the army reserve and gets deployed to iraq. |
