I have a 180 dog and she gets along great with most other dogs and while she never starts fights, she does responds to aggression with aggression. It's become a real pain in the ass.
Like the other day we're at the park and she runs towards a Jack Russell mix about half her size. Until that day she always seemed to get along great with smaller dogs, maybe because they tend to understand that my 45 lb dog could pwn them. Well the Jack Russell dog snapped and growled at my dog so she immediately pwns the shit out of him. The other dog had no chance. In a matter of seconds the Jack Russell is on his back and my dog is standing over top of him.
The whole time the owner of this dog is horrified and gave me a dirty look, as if his dog hadn't started it. I felt really bad though since his dog got pwned and we left the dog park immediately.
Anyone else ever dealt with this sort of thing?

My guy acted like the dog park police dog, breaking up everything between other dogs. As he got older, those turned into fights. I had to stop taking him to the dog park because of it.
Oh, and he always hated boxers. He would go straight at them, even though an adult boxer could tear him up.

Half lab half golden retriever and our dog fights other dogs any chance he gets. It's beyond a nuisance and we've considered finding a new home. It's sad and he's 180 otherwise. But the look on the other do owners is not one I enjoy. He will do it in public, but mostly if another dog comes near our house.
We've taken him to a trainer and done all that bullshit to no end.

We do and we have to be on it, but it's not cool and he gets out sometimes.
Whenever another dog comes by I always have to double check. It's fucked up.
People don't believe me either. Neighbor thought I was full of shit and brought his golden by to meet our dog - instant fight.

I've got kids that leave the gates open all the time. also I'm not here to worry 24/7 about my dog. I love him, but his ass is here to serve me not the other way around.
That said, he is an awesome guard dog (obviously too much). Neighbors across the street have a 19 year old autist boy that the mom said has been known to pull kids' hair. She mentioned my dog was out and said its a good thing because he is terrified of dogs. So fuck it.

If your dog is getting into fights don't take it to the dog park. Your characterization that the other dog "started it" seems blinded - it's not like the other dog jumped your dog. Plus, dogs are supposed to play at the dog park.
It seems like your dog doesnt know the difference between playing and fighting because the other dogs aren't enjoying it.
