I grew up culturally prole-ish with two parents who didn't tiger mom me

Date: May 8th, 2017 5:17 PM Author: Adventurous Burgundy Famous Landscape Painting and i aced exams and classes and avoided drugs/gangs/vices. i played video games and was generally a good kid. my parents never looked at my report cards and didn't take me to any resume-building activities. they both worked and i saw them only after 6:00 pm throughout elementary and high school. never used a tutor. went to a good public school and HYS law school.
ime the main factor in my development was my personality and intelligence. i was not inclined to do what my peers did and did not care about my social status. so i was fine being a nerd and doing my own thing.
as a result, i'm skeptical of lib emphasis on parenting and income and yada yada re: inequality. does it have some merit? maybe, at extremes. but for the most part i think encouraging introverted personalities and lack of concern with social status is going to be more productive for developing academic success. |

that being said, emotionally, i find it harder to connect with people and i've been accused of (and know it to be true to a certain extent) that i lack empathy for those who don't do well.

Having two parents is better because each parent has to do half the amount of work to raise kids while providing them with double the amount of resources. Also, you don't have to worry about strangers coming through the house to fuck mom/dad and being alone because your one parent had to do an extra shift or whatever to keep the heat on.

You also seemed to grow up in a two-parent household. Many "proles" pass on hard-work tendencies to their kids. You can learn work ethic and respect for authority from two blue-collar parents who stayed together and stayed employed. You didn't grow up the son of a single pothead mom and her revolving door of johns. Your parents probably didn't encourage you to be popular or place any other sorts of expectations on you - they let you be you.
You also probably had resources at your school to help gifted kids navigate college applications, and it probably wasn't weird for kids to go to college.
I'm guessing you grew up more middle class than legit prole, too. |
