I just started writing a book on small business entrepreneurship. I am not sure how long it will take to finish but I anticipate a few months at least. It will be a bit more broad than just solo practice. However, most of my examples will come from my experience building a law firm.
Let me know what questions you have or if you want different angles/photos of my house.

My 850k class action settlement got final approval this year, so one of those months had a big hit of fees. I also settled a couple 250k policy limits cases this year too.
I have a wrongful death going to mediation on June 13 in Orange County. 1.3 million is on the table right now. Trying to get 2 million. That will be my biggest case in my career so far. |

Once I put it into my system all the cases are about the same amount of work. The only exception is unusual or very large cases. Deaths, surgery cases, etc usually have to be litigated and worked up a lot more because insurance companies usually don't hand over 500k just because someone had surgery. I usually work 2 hours a day on vacation and answer my cell. My entire office is paperless and everything is on the cloud. So I can work anywhere. I don't have problems. I wish I could do plaintiffs' contingency lit like a real baller but I know nothing about it. I'm nowhere near your level but it's still great to be solo.

Plus my personal network for favors is huge. Since I've handled like 1000 cases, I know people who do practically everything. My paralegal needed credit repair, boom I had a client do it for her for free. It was my mom's bday, boom baker client made her a cake. My car battery dies, boom tow truck driver friend comes and changes battery for free.
The only thing that can be stressful is when the client (1) doesn't understand that if they have no collision coverage it will take time to get their car repaired/get rental (2) that they should have had underinsured motorist coverage and they are mad because some poor person with a 15K policy hit them (3) they think they're a special snow flake and their case is worth 10x what it really is or (4) they don't understand that the process takes months or even years. |

Hospitals will usually do payment plans of like $50/month on bills if the client doesn't want it to hit their credit. Most hospitals will NOT put it on a lien.
I do a lot of $1000 and under small loans for my clients. I don't charge interest. I've loaned up to $10,000 on some bigger cases. I have a spinal fusion case right now that I've loaned like $8,000 on so far. There is a 5 mil policy and anticipate it settling in the seven figures. |
