My wife and I got married in Jamaica two years ago and have gone back each year since. This year, I was much more excited about long layovers and flights because I had the Switch, and boy, it did not disappoint. So, to state the obvious before I get into the cool experiences I had, it made traveling wonderful. I played Has Been Heroes most of my time in the airport/on the plane, though I did play some MK8D with the wifey.
Now, where it got really cool was in Jamaica on our resort. We were hanging out in our cabana one day when one of the resort employees (the photographer who took our wedding photos) recognized me. He came over to say hi but as he got close, his excitement about seeing me shifted to his excitement about the Switch. I took some time to show him Mario Kart, and another resort employee joined him for a race. They laughed and had a great time. He explained to me that it will likely be years before one is affordable in Jamaica which made me sad :(.
Fast-forward to when we were in the airport in Montego Bay and I'm playing Zelda. Killed a guardian and noticed a little boy staring. So, I killed another one and he hadn't diverted his eyes at all. After killing the third in the area, I saved my game, threw Mario Kart in and motioned the little boy over (after asking his mother if it was OK.) He came and joined me, his name was Myles. He was really excited to show me his PSP, but more excited to play the Switch. Myles and I did multiple races in Mario Kart until our plane boarded and his mom seemed pretty happy about the whole thing. I saw Myles a few more times between the flight and the airport when we landed, and each time his face lit up and he pointed, it was cute.
Now, while we were on the plane I saw a guy (probably 40-something) playing Zelda a few rows back. So, I did what any self-respecting MK8D owner would do and held my Switch up on the title screen. He gave me the thumbs up and a minute or two later, we were racing. We raced a good portion of the flight and even our wives joined in, it was great! The flight-attendant even knew what the Switch was and told me how jelly she was.
All-in-all, the Switch is a vacation Godsend, which I think most of us knew, but I had some pretty cool experiences I wanted to share.
