Let's say I buy a $1000 buttplug from a store in Paris. The store in Paris lets me sign up for the VAT refund after I show my receipt. They give me the option to receive a CC refund at 12% or a cash refund at 10.8%.
That means the store is processing the refund itself rather than me having to get it refunded at the airport correct? The people say you need to go to customs to hand in the paperwork, but what if they already gave you the cash discount?
Separately since my buttplug is over my exemption amount, I am supposed to pay customs fees. If the buttplug is well used, customs may not notice it is brand new. Do I really have to declare it? Does the customs process with respect to the VAT refund connect in any way with US customs?
Obviously I am trying to get a refund and not declare customs. Does this work?
