talked to an older woman about this and she was like, yeah basically you are going to pay twice the principal balance of the loan over the course of the mortgage, but you really have to own a home at some point in order to fit in. that's kind of how it is in the midwest anyway.

you still own whatever equity you have in the underlying real estate. if you sell before the note matures its not like you walk away empty-handed. I have $120k equity in a property that I will most likely not be living in at the end of my 30 year mortgage term. I'll probably be renting by that point in my life.
