im certain that the government will regulate exchanges more strictly, set up investigative teams to trace dirty crypto, and perhaps go after privacy-oriented cryptos, but there is just too much money and innovation going on in cryptos for the government to just shut everything down without huge push back. keep in mind there are now crypto billionaires and centimillionaires who can afford armies of lobbyists and pr people.

besides, the us and most rich western countries don't have capital controls and have freely floating currencies, so they are not concerned about capital flight, which is a big concern for emerging markets like china.
