countries that were never going to produce the carbon in the first place (because they are shitholes). So basically we are paying them to supposedly withhold from developing, which they will of course ignore once development becomes realistic. All so that it looks like we have 180 countries signed on.

We're probably going to hit ARE Paris targets anyway (28% decrease in emissions by 2030 or something) thanks to ARE free market principles and a shift away from cole. So we essentially ceded global authority to China for no reason whatsoever, especially considering Paris was non-binding and we'd merely "fail to meet our targets" if we'd have stayed in at worst.

I voted for Trump. God almighty he's a fucking retard.

same with the TPP - who do you think the world is going to increasingly look toward for predictable, stable behavior: the country that can't hold to an agreement from literally one year to the next, or the one that is the source of like 50% of US PhD candidates in STEM fields, that is insanely rich and large, and on the renewables + nukes front they're the trendsetters

oh also they literally make everything for everyone and currently hold the US by the balls re our debt

Renewables will be all over the place and already are in many parts of the US. Wind JUST became profitable without subsidies this year. Over the next decade you will see PV solar pop up everywhere because it's finally affordable.

American companies are investing in battery storage for energy distribution, but all its useful for at this point is for stablizing transmission frequencies and holding power for a very short period of time.

Fossil plants will be a necessary part of the mix for at least a few more decades until battery storage technologies can catch up. There's no power when the sun is gone!

As for transportation, I don't know what we're going to do there. EVs seem alright, and will get better as batteries improve.

It's lol that Trumpmos have gone to the only defensible position for pulling out of this, i.e. the cash transfers. But we spent like $1-3 bill last year on this? It's a drop in the bucket, even compared to our relatively small foreign aid program, much less our budget. Does that really warrant this much policy consideration? Trumpmos want it both ways: the "agreement" had no teeth and was just symbolic so doesn't matter! But Trump is 180 for pulling us out of a symbolic agreement! Oh.. that doesn't make sense.. actually it's just saving us money! 180!

This is total bullshit. US's total commitment was $3 billion LUMP SUM (of which the US already gave $1 billion from money that was already earmarked to development aid). Neither the US nor any other country committed to give $100 billion per year. That was just a meaningless fundraising goal, and most of it was supposed to come from voluntary donations from corporations and charities.

"The fund was set up in 2010 with the aspirational goal of raising money from rich countries and using it to fund projects in poor countries. By 2020, the UN hopes $100 billion will be redistributed in this way each year. (If you count only money from governments, we’re not on track to meet that goal right now; if you count investments by private corporations, the picture looks a little better.) The Green Climate Fund is meant to play a key role in facilitating those efforts, but only has attracted $10.3 billion in pledges from rich countries — $2 billion of which Trump likely won’t deliver."
