You basically are playing outside like building forts and moving rocks around but in a shitty video game. Millions play this stupid game because their shit ass parents won't let them outside. My kids won't have any electronic devices

It's basically Legos on the computer. The problem is the effort threshold is much lower which makes it far more potentially addicting. Legos for most kids are fun in like 30 minute chunks before they get bored; only the real high powered autists could build legit castles and shit. Minecraft makes everything easy so you can do it all day every day.

Unfortunately all our kids are doomed to autism anyway so they would just play with Legos or model trains and shit even if we never let them touch a computer. Such is fate

It's sad because all the potential normies are getting corrupted at a ridiculously young age and exposed to the greater internet. Imagine your eight year old going through the New PewDiePie khole

I did all that stuff as a kid, but I still have a lot of fond memories of playing video games. My parents limited my access to video games and tv though. I wonder if that's even possible when these kids have games on their ipad or whatever.

True but minecraft teaches spatial ability. I think the ideal is to let your kids do both.

how on earth could minecraft - a 2d simulation - teach more spatial ability than ACTUALLY using physical blocks to build things

isn't spacial ability also about being able to visualize how 2d-rendered objects would look and behave in 3d? so, visualizing in 3d a cube drawn on a page? in legos, you can literally see how the 3d piece fits in whereas on the screen you have to visualize it in 3d and take it from there, no?

It's the same attraction as lego but kids are inside the lego world.

excellent OP.

took a day off from work and went into the forest for a picnic and hike with the wife and dotter yesterday. she just loves being outdoors. been taking her out into the woods since she was 11 months AT LEAST once a week and usually 3 times a week and it's paying dividends.
