Plenty of blue collars make 6 figures but don't report most of it. So the Labor stats are inaccurate.

Carpenter is difficult but lol at locksmiths telling olds there is a "serious" problem with their locks and charging them 500 dollars for 5 minutes work.

look into taking a workforce development class at your local CC. they range in the 1500 ballpark, are either later evenings 2 a week or all day saturday and in 6 months you know what you need and can sit for licensing if that is truly your interest.

once sequence i've seen is 9 month courses at 1500. electrician-->plumbing-->HVAC. 27 months, 4500 cash. you're basically good to start a small business.

i recommend this to a lot of young men who go to a college thinking "i guess i will just do english and land somewhere". some have taken it.

"Workers" don't hit six figures all that often. Owners hit six figures often.

Side note: "six figures" isn't a particularly aspirational amount anymore thanks to inflation. We should probably make the jump to a quarter-million.

Yeah, at nonprofits or shitty in-house gigs in the middle of the country. Or solo practitioners who haven't built up a pipeline of deals yet.

If you're making $95k in Boise and work 10-4 Monday-Thursday, that doesn't sound like a bad life.

Blue-collar entrepreneurship is a real thing, but if you want to be Joe the Plumber and rip down $200k+/year, you need to develop a roster of clients. It's like hanging a shitlaw shingle or being a general practice doctor, except the barriers to entry don't cost $100k/year in tuition.

You still need some degree of business sense or else you'll be languishing in the gig economy, relying on TaskRabbit to get you hooked up with potential customers.

Otherwise you will need to work your way up and play politics like white collar wage slaves, or pick jobs that have some sort of danger element.

The problem is that the public hates lawyers and tries to avoid them. Law is abstract so they don't see the value.

cr also a lot of it depends on getting that one "big" job and working on a new development or getting a company that holds multiple properties and wants to renovate all of them at once. you aren't going to make that much doing 3-4 service calls a day and having half of your customers stiff you.

Yeah, and depending on where you live, you could also be facing a lot of word-of-mouth-related barriers to entry.

Growing up, my parents had that one mechanic that everyone in town went to. He was a friendly dood, had two kids about my age, and seemed to do a good job on everyone's cars. Same with respect to hairdressers, and even general practice doctors/dentists. Someone coming into the market would have a tough time convincing us why we should use them over the people we've used for years.

Since I went in-house at an industrial I've been fucking shocked at the salaries we pay. I genuinely can't stand to look at which retard dumbass with a felony conviction we're paying six figures at age 25. Don't even get me started on dumbass line management that came up here making $100k more than me.

This is absolutely true however at the same time the average W-2 blue collar labourer makes like $30k. If you're an amazing master craftsman/tradesman but you're a W-2 or work for anyone in any capacity over/under the table, your income is an ignominious disaster and causes you to drink. The owner of the outfit keeps everything for himself, labour is fungible. There is an endless supply of divorcepwned Gen X bros with no money to start their own business, plus mexicans. Gen Y does not engage in manual labour but they got around this by adding more mexicans.

Business owners > wage slaves is the real dynamic. But these guys literally have to, 1.) do shit. There is no coasting, or poasting 2.) If the economy crashes they take a hit immediately and there is no way to mitigate this risk. They either get the job/contract or they don't. If construction/trades were some great racket, Jews would run it.
