Date: July 17th, 2017 5:58 PM Author: Frisky electric furnace turdskin Look around Europe's major countries and see who has a "friendly" heart. You can ally them immediately. Should be at least two of France/Spain/Austria/Poland. Then fabricate and try to steal Byzantium before the Ottomans can get it. With your allies you should look "big and scary" enough to avoid an Ottoman war declaration. Wait until you can call in your allies and probably wait until they're involved in a war in the East (ideally Mamluks but the mid sized hordes over there would work OK) then declare. With you + Austria + Poland for example it should be fairly easy. Also if they ally France as they sometimes do you're pretty much boned.
Quantity is the best military idea group in the game (and as venice you can easily afford the # of troops and still make good money). Try to keep your Republican leaders as much as you can. Try to stay >80 Republican tradition. You can strengthen government if you have to - the math still works out in your favor I believe. |

Date: July 17th, 2017 6:13 PM Author: Frisky electric furnace turdskin If they capture Constantinople they get an event that gives them +1 stability, the city +11 development, and changes them to Empire rank all for free. There are also some other good events that only trigger if they have Constantinople.
They can still be really strong without it but it does help handicap them. Trying to snag some of the Turkish minors before them is good too - makes you stronger and them weaker.
Check to see if the Ottomans have the "City of World's Desire" mission within the first month of unpausing. If they do then forget about fabricating on Byzantium and just do a no cassus beli war to take their three provinces + athens. |

Then i take bosnia, serbia, and wallachia and stack cash until ottomans are in a big eastern war with no troops in europe. Then i declare war with all my allies and have ships in the strait by constantinople to block the ottoman troops from crossing
Then i take a few provinces and wait until the truce is over and do it again

HOI3 was ultra spergy complex and you'd spend an hour before unpausing just reorganizing the like five layered command structure of your starting army. That was probably excessive, but I liked it. HOI4 is ultra simplified and I don't enjoy it at all.
EU4 currently is the best game Paradox has ever made. |

i have been enjoying playing OP countries like poland and flat out conquering europe and ottomans, last game dismantled HRE super early because the fucking protestants won and there were like 2 protestant electors, LOL, open season after that on all of central europe, plus an early PU over bohemia (which holds now despite the elected monarch in commonwealth?? didnt use to). Owned everything from the good parts of russia to the levant to france
had extreme fun playing morocco and conquering rome, converting everyone to islam, colonizing, etc |
