They are already out of time.
Debt ceiling in September. Budget in October. Holidays, then an election year.
Nice Supreme Court theft, though.

America's track record of reforming or taking away entitlements is not promising. Hell, look at the response around here to removing PSLF (I was one of them).
While most Americans disagree with socialism or communism in practice, they are loathe to give up a benefit, no matter how socialist, once they have been given it.
The only thing that enables real change in this country is some kind of catastrophe, whether it be war or a major financial crash.
TL;DR: burn it all.

Maybe just maybe healthcare is the thing that Dems and liberals value more than anything else. It is why they are Dems/liberals.
Think about why you believe and vote the way you do. Something about size of government, taxes, guns, whatever.
I am a Dem because I believe more than anything else that people who need healthcare should get it at a fair price.
That is not a negotiable point.

We agree, but our solutions differ. One wants to put the decisionmaking in the hands of government bureaucrats, the other wants to enable individual responsibility.
At its core, this is the difference between Dems/Libs and Repubs/Cons.
The problem is that the Republicans sold out to Big Business decades ago and so they are unable to pass any kind of meaningful legislation to fix the costs of healthcare. The astronomical cost increases of healthcare (and education) are due to market distortions. Identify and fix the distortions and you make healthcare affordable for the masses without involving bureaucratic decision makers.

This is depressing but to be expected. Everyone is at fault here.
1. Most Americans are dumb and lazy and will not let go of entitlement programs.
2. The GOP, after using Obamacare to win elections, finally got called on their bluff. They passed a real repeal in 2015, knowing full well that Obama was gonna veto it. Now we know that it was symbolic posturing.
3. Trump should have displayed more leadership by determining the parameters of the debate and drawing a clear line on what an acceptable bill would look like. He then should have used the bully pulpit to sell the plan to the American people. Look at what Obama did in 2009-2010. Although he delegated the writing of the bill to Congress, he made it absolutely clear that 2 things were non-negotiable: universal coverage and coverage of pre-existing conditions. In so doing, the Democrats knew that they had to pass a bill that met both criteria, which made their job a bit easier. In contrast, Trump has no ideological or policy convictions, making it impossible for the GOP to come together on the same page.
