I am a biglaw shitigator that has gotten sucked into an M&A "deal" this week. I can't believe how much it blows! Sit around all day with nothing to do then the client dumps the latest draft of whatever agreement we have so that we can "turn" it overnight. Then it takes literally 2 hours to do edits that would take 5 minutes on a brief, because you have to go through some sort of daisy chain of emails and calls to do it. And you have to sit around all night just waiting for the next person to respond to email, call, whatever.

what do you put in the billing entry? "waiting for work"??? i've only billed for "waiting" time once, and it is when the client directed me to stand by and wait to make a filing that had already been prepared. so i went to the bar and drank beer waiting for the "ok." but that was a special circumstance.

It's akin to driving to a hearing while listening to some 180 podcasts.

As for what to write in the time entry, just flow from whatever task you just completed or work on next. You know this nigger gsme.

Biglaw transactional work sucks because you are just brought in after all the major deal points are decided upon to just paper the deal, with everything being a fire drill.

Working for smaller entrepreneurial clients (who are usually rich as fuk) is much more interesting, as they look at you as more of an advisor, and bring you in for advice, both legal and business, from day 1 of a transaction and for any important decision.
