We've lost funding! Need to double tuition this year!
And then 50% the following year, 30% the next, etc.
So basically what they did was pass all the pain of the recession to students, none to administrators and faculty
Now it's just like a permanent form of welfare for academia

the '08 crash pushed things a lot higher too. with fundraising down and building loans less available, universities, instead of tapping their endowments, just jacked tuition rates 10% to 30% to make up their budget shortfalls. |
