At my big state U, they used the recession as an excuse to open the trough wide and long
We've lost funding! Need to double tuition this year!
And then 50% the following year, 30% the next, etc.
So basically what they did was pass all the pain of the recession to students, none to administrators and faculty
Now it's just like a permanent form of welfare for academia
