Friend works for a PE fund dealing primarily in RE, and she handles most of the RE stuff. Hours are reasonable and somewhat predictable. Major city. 6th year associate. Pay is about $180k base, bonus can range from $30k to $70k, and they can invest in fund deals as well. She prefers it to biglaw mainly because of the hours and people. We both worked in probably the worst departments at our firm, and we celebrated when each of us finally left.

You should try to somehow jump from being in-house counsel to actually being a PE bro...that's where the REAL money is. They give the in-house guys crumbs.

Even if you make $200k/yr as in-house counsel, you'll probably be working with guys the same age as you making $200k PER MONTH.
