It's basically:

1) playing as a kid everything is magical: the music, characters, etc. plus games stimulate your imagination a lot

2) libs ruining games recently (gamergate, horizon zero dawn, etc.)

older games are also more simple and conducive to casual playing. as you get older, you have more responsibilities and lose interest in investing your time and energy into big long games. you just want something to fire up and get a couple dopamine hits
